Which is the best??

I like them both: Goodfellas shows the street level, while Casino shows the glitz and glamour. But as we all know it doesn't last!! cry

They are both excellent movies, but very different.
The brilliance of "Goodfellas" is how Scorsese presents a great story about street-level mob guys in short, punchy, fast-moving scenes. Plenty of mordant humor, too. "Casino" tells a bigger story about an industry (and some of the people who run it) in a longer, more structured way. Great performances in both films.

Why do more people like Goodfellas than Casino?

This has been brought up before and is always an excellent debate. A few years ago my vote was for Casino. But for about two years, I give the nod to Goodfellas. For me, it's a few things: the acting of Paul Sorvino is superb, the smaller characters like Morrie, Spider, Frenchie, et. al gives Goodfellas an added dimension and depth over Casino. Plus I like the flashback scenes with the younger Henry & Tommy. My favorite character is Jimmy Conway, portrayed wonderfully by DeNiro.

All that said, there's not much to dislike about Casino. There is less humor than in Goodfellas. Ginger is a character that the viewer grows to despise, whereas there is no such character in Goodfellas. I love the beginning hour of Casino, especially the scene where they catch the two guys cheating. I like the lesser characters like Gaggi, Frankie, and the casino boss played by Don Rickles.

I'd give both films 5 out of 5 stars.

Your absolutely right! clap Pesci and Sorvino were amazing, as was DeNiro.

Casino was excellent too, but Sharon Stone's Ginger was over the top.
Frank Vincent - I've always liked him - Mega excellent in The Sopranos as Philip Leotardo. And just as good in Goodfellas as William "Billy Batts" Devino!!!

I think that Goodfellas and Casino are equally good.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The two movies are so well casted and so beautifully put together that it's almost impossible (for me at lest) to choose one over the other.

Most of ya'll probably know this but I just recently found out an interesting tidbit about Goodfellas....

The guy that played Nicky Eyes, a couple of minor scenes in the flick, was played by a guy named John Manca who was a dirty cop and then an associate of one of the families when he got busted off the force.Did a lot of stuff with Frank Carbo. He was also a tech. advisor for Scorcesse.

His story is in a book called Tin For Sale.Fairly good read.

Other then both movies being mob ones, the second reason to see them is for DeNiro and Pesci!!

I like both movies, but if I have to choose it would be Goodfellas, hands down.

I Wouldn't duck you in a million years

He - (Simón Bolívar) - was shaken by the overwhelming revelation that the headlong race between his misfortunes and his dreams was at that moment reaching the finishing line. The rest was darkness. "Damn it," He sighed. "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!"

So what’s the labyrinth?

That’s the mystery isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape - the world, or, the end of it?

I prefer Goodfellas. Casino was too depressing for me.

Love them both, but the nod goes to Goodfellas.

Simple, Goodfellas is a great movie whereas Casino is very good. I love both films, but the pacing and story of Goodfellas is just better.

Goodfellas.

goodfellas was hands down a great movie. but thats just what alot of it was a movie. there are things in the movie that never happend. and yes i know hollywood has to add this and that to make it flow like a good movie should but they took the life of a glorified errand boy and made him out to be one of the top wiseguys of that time. and the time it is set in was a time period of some of the most legendary wiseguys ever.

Both great movies, as others have said. I like Goodfellas a bit better primarily because I find myself fast-forwarding through all of the Ginger scenes in Casino. Still, they both have great characters and the Scorsese's use of the soundtrack is terrific in both of them.

I never found Goodfellas that interesting. Casino, tho', love it.. 2nd fav movie of all time. Great acting, good storyline, and it really captures the time from back then. Plus, who doesn't love Vegas?! grin
