Ten years ago things were a little different. New York consisted of three families. Moretti, Dragonetti and DiTello.

Wiseguys 1979

Moretti were in trouble as the reigning boss Sammy "Spades" Moretti was imprisoned. In his time of need he left his admin members of the family to run things. Vinny Gibaldi as the acting boss, but his nephew Tony was the front man and was seen as boss. Meanwhile Sammy gave orders through is wife and his consigliere Hesh Abraham. If that wasn't fucked up enough he had bigger things to worry about such as Silvio Costello who had just been released from a long term stretch in prison, although some said not long enough. He wanted what was coming to him and when he got it he wanted more. He teamed up with Frankie DiTello (The Dragonetti soldier turned DiTello boss) in a drugs ring behind The Moretti families back. With the backing of DiTello, Silvio planned to make a move and take over the Moretti family. When he decided to move things forward he killed the acting boss Vinny Gibaldi in cold blood.

Dragonetti was in peices as Michel Dragonetti disappeared for a while. No explination to who was running things. So someone stepped up. Frankie DiTello was a loyal guy who had been stepped over many times. He decided to make moves on his own and go against the whole Dragonetti aproach of subtleness and peaceful. Instead Frankie used brute force and violence to get what he wanted. Although he was not a captain he had the respect and loyalty of most of the men in the family. He started to make bigger moves in the drug trade with less tribute to the boss. When Michel came back to see what had happend he disowned Frankie and threw him out of the family. His down fall however was helping Frankie set up his own family. This resulted in Frankie taking most of the Dragonetti men with him and becoming bitter of what Dragonetti had done to him.

DiTello were a fairly new family in New York but they could well have been the most brutal and feared. Frankie DiTello was known for his "who gives a fuck" approach to things and thats the way he ran his family. After being kicked out of Dragonetti he was infuriated and seeked revenge. After taking most of the Dragonetti numbers he had become the stronger family. He also made alliences with Silvio Costello (also a very violent and feared man) together they ran the drug trade of New York and Frankie gave Silvio the word that he would help him take over Moretti, as long as he done the same with Dragonetti.

What Happend Next..

After killing Vinny Gibaldi, Silvio waited to see what would happen about it. Everyone in the family was outraged and demanded that Sammy went back to being boss. Silvio knew that they would not stand for him stepping in and he did not have the backing of anyone in the family. Instead he decided to operate as a captain and would let someone else take the blame. Benjamin "King Benny" was the man for that job. Everyone knew that Benny was spiteful of Vinny and so he was whacked.

Meanwhile things for Dragonetti and DiTello came to a head when Frankie made the move and had Angelo (Michel's son) killed and sent to Michel in a body bag. Straight away he knew who it was who done it and so it started a long and bloody war that lasted for years. Men were killed from both sides and this went on and on. It finally ended when Michel Dragonetti was murdered at his doorstep at the end of a shotgun.

Things calmed down after that. Moretti went on the way they were and DiTello did the same until Frankie DiTello died of heart failure. Moretti then seen there chance and moved in on all the business. With only few DiTello men left they gave up. The DiTello family was announced defunct and its members spilt up and disappeared. Moretti now reigned supreme and took over most of the rackets. They took control and continued to run operations from Brooklyn as normal.

Wiseguys 1989

Things ran smooth for The Moretti Family with no enemies to compete with. Tony was named acting boss and the family was still officially ran by Sammy. Things however became awkward since Sammy died one night quietly in his jail cell. Without the backing of Sammy, Tony would now be vunerable. Even more so now that Silvio Costello has his eyes on the prize. He had had enough of laying in wait all these years and decided to make a move. His plans would have went forward if he wasn't sent to prison also for a short sentence for drug charges. Instead he has decided to put his younger brother Nicky in charge of his crew until he returns.

It is only a matter of time before things come to a head and war breaks out and splits the family up.
