This week on PBS (Tuesday in most areas), the documentary 49 Up will air on the "P.O.V." series.

For those who are not familiar with this, many years ago a documentary was made about a group of British schoolchildren from varying socio-economic backgrounds. The first film (7 Up) was made when they were seven years old. Every seven years, a new documentary has been made, chronicling the lives of the group. Some have not participated in all the films, but many have.

The films have been shown on PBS in the US, though, IIRC, the first four were condensed into one show for American television. The director has been Michael Apted from the second film onward (though I believe he worked on the first one).

A truly fascinating series.

Signor V.

"For me, there's only my wife..."

"Sure I cook with wine - sometimes I even add it to the food!"

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"

"It was a grass harp... And we listened."

"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."
