What does Mignon, er, I mean Mama say at the dinner table in Part II's communion scene? It looks like she's talking crap on Fredo's wife and Merle, does anyone know what she said exactly?

-In my HOME!!! In my BEDROOM WHERE MY WIFE SLEEPS!! Where my children come and play with their toys. In my home.

While we're at it . . . What did Tom say to Pentangeli's brother, who was sitting next to Michael at the Senate hearing, after Frankie failed to cooperate and turn state's evidence and the session had just been closed?

More or less:

1. Mama is telling Tom that she does not particlularly like or approve of "questa due" i.e. these two referring to Merle and Deanna.

2. Tom is telling Pentangeli's brother that his family has maintained its honor.

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

If I'm not mistaken Mama says something to the effect that Merle and Deanna are perfect for each other.

I can't really hear it, but it seems that she says that they are two of the same just like 90 says. I can't hear Tom at all, but I did pick up as DT says the queste due which is pronounced somewhat differently among Sicilians.

I think that in that scene it's a bit instructive about the relationship between Tom and Mama. Don't you think that they are commisserating much like a son would with his mother? They seem to be on quite familiar terms.

PENTANGELI: "Yeah, CLEMENZA promised them [something in Italian]. CLEMENZA promised them nothing. He hated those son of a bitches more than I do. "

Anyone feel like taking a shot at this one?

I can't hear it very well and you have to be careful about the actor's pronunciation. It could be scassa which can mean several things depending on the circumstances. I would use it to convey my dissatisfaction or discomfort with something. If it is scassa, Frankie is saying that he doesn't like the whole idea of even considering giving the Rosatos anything - out of hte question. That's as close as I can come.

He says "Clemenza promised them ougats." Ougats is a slang term which means "nothing." It's basically the equivalent of "squat" or "jack shit."

And in the "Saga" version shown on TV, they censored it so he says, "Clemenza promised them ushgatz," as if that would spare our tender ears. \:p

What does "mort'" mean?

PANTANGELI: "I want those Rasoto's dead!"

MICHAEL: "No."

PANTANGELI: "Mort'."

"Mort'" (as in morto) means "dead."

Yes, you have to be careful about pronunciation. Like I posted, I can't hear it very well at all, but I would have sworn that the first pronounced letter out of his mouth was an S. Well, you learn something every day.

He promised them Balls. Dick. Nothing.

Don Cardi cool

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

Now it makes some sense. I was hearing something like (phonetically) caz zaht. I should have realized that it was (phonetically) gotz which actually is cazzi such as in Mangia imei cazzi.. It really is a struggle to listen and understand Italians speaking the language and second and thrid generations trying to understanding and speak it.
