Long time reader, first time poster. During Vito's funeral, when the family is sitting grave side, Fredo isn't present. Any thoughts on where he was and why he wasn't at his father's funeral? Or maybe he is there in the background and I've never noticed him?

Fredo was a non-issue at that point in movie as far as visuals go... that scene was ALL about showing the traitor that they now dead Corleone talked about.

Dead man see's Tessio cross over his grave to see Son hear about "the meeting" they talked about. Great scene. It could have happened the next day or next week... but no, they did it then. Nice.

Granted, he wasn't needed for the scene, but hell, Johnny Fontaine was there, but no Fredo? Just seems odd that FCC would not include him in the scene somewhere.

Perhaps after the funeral mass, he hooked up with a couple of cocktail waitresses.
