It's been a hard couple of weeks for my poor Mother. After getting all uptight about the anniversary of my Dad's passing a fortnight ago she went and landed herself in hospital with pneumonia this week \:\(
She is back home now but her health worries me now!
She also suffers from diabetes and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease....
She says now that she will have to go into an Old Folks Home because she cannot look after herself any more \:\/
Being an only child can be very stressful sometimes...but all you can do is get on with it i guess!
I don't mind dealing with stress if it meant my Mothers health improved any....

Yogi, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. It sounds like the two of you have a lovely relationship, and I'm sure that it's tough on you.

She may just be feeling down because she's ill, so there's a chance she'll recover and go back to her independent life. Please don't stress too much.

And know that my thoughts are with you!

I suspect that won't ever change (worrying about your mom).

Visit/call her when you can and listen patiently to her complain about whatever she wants....

Also, let her know that her son has friends who are praying for her. \:\)

Sorry to hear that, Yogi - I hope she gets better soon!

My mom's had her fair share over the years (most recently this week, but luckily nothing too serious) between bypass surgery, knee replacements, stomach issues, etc. My folks are turning 78 this year and I can't help but worry... tho worrying never really helps anything I suppose, I just can't help it either. ;\)

I'm sorry to hear about your mom Yogi. I know what you mean about always worrying. You don't have to be an only child to get stressed out an worry. \:\/ The older they get, and the more health issues they have the more we worry.

I pray your mom gets better. Surrounded by a loving family can be therapy in iself. My best to her and you.

I know a bit of what you're going through - having lost my Dad and also being an only child. It is a tremendous worry about our Moms, no matter how what age they are.

You and your Mom are in my thoughts & prayers.

I too worry about my mom constantly. I think it's times like these we can appreciate it more when they worried about us when we were young and we couldn't figure out why. All my best wishes for you Yogi.

Yogi, it's always hard to watch someone you love suffering and declining. One of the most important things for you is to maintain your equilibrium by not taking everything on yourself. You and your mom need, and can get, help.
In America, many elderly people with health problems can still live in their homes with help from organizations known here as the Visiting Nurse Service or its equivalent (churches and other religious institutions also provide this kind of service). Our government-run health agencies, Medicare and Medicaid, can provide in-home assistance or other help. And many private agencies provide companions and home-health aides, too.
The reason I mention this is because I'm sure that the UK has all of these types of options, and probably more, since your health care system is more "socialized" than ours. Once you start the ball rolling, you'll start feeling that you're not taking the entire burden on your shoulders. And remember: you're not stopping your care and love for your mom--you're getting her the professional help she needs, which can free you to provide the emotional support and love that only you can give. \:\)

Hey SB!
She is'nt to bad this week so far!
I am back at work on nights but my wife has been taking the kids over to see her because they are on half term holidays this week!
(She is a God-send my bride!)
I'm just taking it a day at a time. She has sunk into this depression about her health and her situation which breaks my heart to see \:\/
But like i said, one day at a time!
Thanks again for your concern and kind words!
I really,really appreciate it!

Yogi, Don't be surprised by the depression. My mom went through the same thing a few years ago after open-heart surgery and it's not unusual. I'm sure that having your wife and kids come to see her makes her smile.

Hang in there. One day at a time is the ONLY way to do it.

Yogi,

Thanks for the update. I'm glad she is at least holding her own and has family around her.

You are so right to take it one day at a time. I've found, through experience, that if you look at long term (what's gonna happen? What will I do? What if this or that?) you'll drive yourself crazy. The only way to do it IS one day at a time. We don't know what the future will bring, but by not overwhelming yourself with what will happen long term and taking it by the day, makes it perhaps a little easier. \:\/

My prayers are with you.

My mother's mother passed away very suddenly in 2001, not long after 9/11. I don't think my mother's been the same since. My father's mother is showing signs of dementia, and it's causing all sorts of anxieties for my dad. Like everyone else here, I realise the extent to which we all care for our parents in one way or another.

A parent in ill health causes much distress. Needless to say, my thoughts are with you, Yogi.

Sorry for not offering my condolences earlier, I some how over looked this thread. But, that aside, you really do have my condolences now.

My mom had pneumonia last year... Around January/February of 2006. She spent, I believe, three or four days in the hospital... Although, it was no where near as serious, as it sounds, just because she doesn't have any other real health concerns, and (as I'd assume) is much younger than your own mother.

"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."
