This movie is excellent and Stallone should have been nominated for an academy award. Rocky has always been a winner even in the worst of times when Rocky was down for the count. Stallone is a master at bringing magic to this character. Rocky is better than Rambo and more believable at times since this film was based on George Forman’s return and subsequent win over a younger opponent. This movie is also a somber one since, Adrian has passed away from cancer and Rocky is left without direction. Paulie tries his best and in one deleted scene breaks down and states that he should have died instead of his sister. Paulie also praises Rocky for putting up with him. The ending of the film is a bit different since Rocky losses the fight to Dixon in a split decision. The alternate ending had Rocky winning the fight over Dixon. IMHO Rocky actually did win the fight. One thing that ponders me is why didn’t Sage Stallone reprise his role as Robert Balboa? Milo Ventimiglia did a so so job as Robert. The extras on the DVD are very good and there is an interview with Stallone who discusses the character in depth.

Oh Oh Oh Pisano! What have we ever done to make you treat us so direspectfully? Why couldn't you post a SPOILER ALERT or put your comment in a

Warning, Spoiler:
????????

Some may have not seen the movie yet, and some, like myself, have not seen the alternate ending on the DVD.

Loved it. Saw it a few weeks ago and I'm a huge Rocky fan. The boxing scenes didn't look as choreographed as its predecessors, the performances were top-notch (especially Stallone and Burt Young) and it brought a fitting and apt end to the series.

When I first heard about this film, I was like, WTF? But I was wrong. Kudos to Stallone for sticking to his guns and delivering.

I bought this dvd and I don't have any of the other Rocky movies. This is a great way to end the Rocky series. It was so touching how he revisted different places that him and Adrian went to. I like how he called the Marie Character "little Marie"

DC, I must say about one thing...does the ending of ROCKY BALBOA really spoil? Its not like CHINATOWN or SIXTH SENSE or even USUAL SUSPECTS.

BTW, did you know that Rocky lost the fight in ROCKY?

Really, Stallone of the old days when he was the biggest movie star(and apparently the biggest egomaniac as well) in the world would have kept the alternate ending of him winning. But, thankfully he kept the right ending and made the first seriously decent ROCKY flick since the first film.

Stallone can be a competent scriptwriter. Look at ROCKY and even his rewrite of FIRST BLOOD. Its just when he didn't give a fart, he gave us stuff like....oh I don't know...the other ROCKY sequels.

Not the point Ronnie. There are some people here who have not seen 'Rocky Balboa' yet. Why post the ending without a spoiler warning? Why post the alternate ending without a spoiler warning? Is it so terrible that I request that someone take a moment to post a spoiler warning or use the spoiler feature?

But DC, where is the line drawn?

Surely some people here haven't seen EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, but we've talked about Vader the Big Bad Daddy.

Better yet, should I reveal CASINO ROYALE...

Warning, Spoiler:
...James Bond wins, Again.

Paul, in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could just post a spoiler warning if you plan on revealing the ending of a movie that is only a few months old. Thank you, it's nothing personal and I hope that you understand.

I have to agree with DC here. I was mocked once for posting the words "SPOILER" when discussing a rather old film, but I still felt compelled to do it. I don't want to spoil things for people who may or may not have seen the film, especially one that is a recent release.

Personally, spoilers don't bother me because I'm one of those people who read the last few pages of a book because I need to know the ending, but still....

I had the same reaction as you did Paul. When I first heard that this was going to be made, I was like "Oh no." But after seeing it in the movies, I realized that it had to be made in order to bring this great series to a proper ending. And what a fitting ending it was. Stallone did a great job writing this one. Thankfully it makes you forget about Rocky 5.

I thought it was pretty good. Academy Award in Botox, maybe.

No one needs to worry about the spoiler, that was a wrong one. To those who have not seen the movie, this is the real spoiler:

Rocky dies in a car accident in the end.

Me, on Rocky Balboa:

A lot more subdued than what might have been expected, and all the better for it. There's no real build up to the fight, here, no oppositional adversity for the hero to overcome; instead, his demons are entirely internal, and the character seems preoccupied by how his career is now perceived by others - and so, at times, it seems Stallone too is concerned about his own career, in view of the franchise for which he is famous. Possible routes of interest are suggested but never followed up on in any great depth: the real baddies here are those who organise the exhibition match, all in it for the money, with backstage sniggering going on about how much they're making from it. The fight itself is filmed in two styles: the introductions and first two rounds are all shot as if they are a real fight shown on pay-per-view television, with commentators, announcers, and all the expected camera angles (with a cameo from Mike Tyson at ringside), and so it is suggested that the film might finally be a comment on the state of modern boxing, all money and little heart; but thereafter it blends into an equally self-reflexive and intertextual, but very different, style, that of rapid montage, in which, with every punch absorbed, Rocky has flashbacks to other moments in the five preceding films. But it's less about the fighting, here, and more about upholding and revisiting one's own persona, fame and myth; and as a veteran action star now making films, Stallone is a lot more effective than Eastwood, at least.
