GFI is a classic, an original not only chronologically, but cinematically. It's in its own class. Comparisons with it are unfair. GFII is in its own class also. But it's kind of like loving your stepdad when your real father was a gem.

I look at GFI & GFII as one big, fantastic 6 1/2 hour epic. They're two separate films only in title, for me.

I cannot answer this. It is like asking which of your children do you like the most.

It's a close call, but I picked GF1. Vito, Sonny, Clemenza.....their absences in GF2 are missed. I like Michael's tranformation from nice college boy, seen in flash back scene frolicking like a school boy with Kay in the hotel room, to the ruthless killer at the end. Just look at Michael's expressions from the beginning, to the end where he coldly walks off with an expressionless face after having Carlo whacked.

That's like the Fredo of your children. You love it because it's one of your own even though deep down you know what it lacks compared to the others. But there's something that you still love about it. ;\)

Well said. One of the great lines in GF I is haw pathetically Fredo tells Vito "I'm gonna learn the casino business," and how Vito isnt really paying any attention because he wants to get Tom's briefing on the business and to find out where Michael is.

I love GF1 the most and GF3 the least. But all the music is my favorite.

I love all my children equally, but there are a couple of them that I'd much rather be around than the others.

GFI by a wide margin because, as some have posted above, it's an original with all the dignity and class of an original. GFII is probably the best sequel ever made. But it must be viewed as a different animal from I. I too love the flashback scene, it's moodiness, the depth of iits character development. But GFI is it for me.

That would be my answer too. I cant chose between them

Oh and thank you to the OP for not including GF3 in the poll. That would have been an insult to GF1 and GF2
