My taste in music has changed drastically over the past month or so. Radiohead and The Doors used to be my two favorite bands, and now I wouldn't put any of their albums in my top 10. Same with Jeff Buckley and Cat Power. I've just gotten into so much better stuff. It's most likely because my focus on cinema as my favorite art form has shifted to music. But here's my list:

1. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
2. Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
3. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground and Nico
4. Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen
5. Bob Dylan - Another Side of Bob Dylan
6. Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
7. Bad Brains - Bad Brains
8. Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
9. Talking Heads - Remain in Light
10. Funkadelic - Standing on the Verge of Getting it On

I think these are mine; very rough, with little thought, and absolutely no order:

"Endtroducing" by DJ Shadow
"Mysteries of Funk" by Grooverider
"Desire" by Bob Dylan
"Melody AM" by Röyksopp
"Dig Your Own Hole" by The Chemical Brothers
"Veneer" by José González
"Like Hearts Swelling" by Polmo Polpo
"The Science of Breath" by Polmo Polpo
"Play" by Moby
"John Wesley Harding" by Bob Dylan

"Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd
"Waiter: "You Vultures!" " by Portugal the Man

I'd be interested to hear why Another Side of Bob Dylan is your favorite Dylan album, I've always felt it has some outstanding songs but at the same time Dylan hadn't yet completed his transition from writing topical songs, although "Chimes of Freedom" has some outstanding lyrics.

It's good to see someone who rates "Remain in Light" as highly as I do.

I also find Capo's list rather appealing, "Endtroducing" is a great album, and I love seeing the utterly underrated "John Wesley Harding" on your list.

As for my own list, although I don't really have one, for the benefit of the thread I'll post the ten albums I most enjoy at the moment:

"Blonde on Blonde" - Bob Dylan
"Another Green World" - Brian Eno
"Remain in Light" - Talking Heads
"Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society" - The Kinks
"Doolittle" - The Pixies
"Lust for Life" - Iggy Pop
"Low" - David Bowie
"Music from Big Pink" - The Band
"Zombie" - Fela Kuti and Afrika 70
"Bringing it All Back Home" - Bob Dylan
"Trans-Europe Express" - Kraftwerk

Holy crap that's a great list. Good call on Another Green World.

I enjoy Another Side of Bob Dylan more than his others because it encompasses so many different things, from humor to heartache. All of Dylan's characteristics just come together so perfectly in the album; charming, funny, melodic, and romantic.

As for Remain in Light, that album is just plain ADDICTING. I can't think of a better way to open an album than with Born Under Punches, and I love how Byrne just starts the whole thing off by yelling, "AH!"

I gave Another Side a listen the other day, it really has some outstanding songs. What weakens it for me are the sloppy performances (he recorded the album during an all-night alcohol binge, perhaps not the best choice). I've found that most of the songs on the album improved tremendously in live performaces.

Do you have any Talking Heads albums other than Remain in Light?

Yeah, Fear of Music, which isn't nearly as good, but still a great album nonetheless.

I'd like to hear "The Name of This Band is Talking Heads" next.

Excellent list, mattress. I love me some Pixies.

Very true... But Surfer Rosa and Doolittle probably contain some of their best material.

See, this is why I can never get myself to rank a sturdy "top ten" list for music. I always list the two or three albums that I contain an unconditional love for, and then whatever else I'm listening to at the time. Right now, I see a geaping hole in my list that needs some Pixies, Nirvana, Sonic Youth... Ten spots just isn't enough.

I downloaded a pirated copy. It's not as good as Funeral, but still very cool. It has sort of a 1980s new-wave feel to it; more so than the last album. It actually reminds me of Echo and the Bunny Men a little.
