Hi, I'm new here. I have seen GF1 but not read the novel. When the big pot of spaghetti is emptied into the trash, is there a deeper meaning, perhaps something in the book? I wondered if it meant that a lot of men had been killed (hence not as much food eaten) or even that the discarded pasta was symbolic of the disposable men (here today, gone tomorrow) on both sides of the conflict. Any ideas?

...When the big pot of spaghetti is emptied into the trash, is there a deeper meaning... The deeper meaning is to show that when you're raised in a good Italian family it is absolutely mandatory to prepare TOO MUCH FOOD...whether for a party, your daughter bringing her new boyfriend to meet the parents, or to feed bunch of buttonmen hitting the mattresses. Somebody made too much spaghetti. Apple

You're right, I've over-analyzed it. I just thought since it was during the bloodiest part of the movie, it may have had a subtle meaning. But I'm glad that not every noodle needs a name. AppleOnYa, I read your reply after I wrote this. Thanks for the extra insight, and to the above posters too.

...I'm glad that not every noodle needs a name... Gattone, that's one of the BEST quotes I've ever read on the Gangster BB!! You wouldn't believe some of the things people have brought up in a desparate attempt to initiate 'new' discussion. At least you've got a sense of humor! Welcome to the Board...I look forward to your future contributions!! Apple

When the big pot of spaghetti is emptied into the trash, is there a deeper meaning, perhaps something in the book? How do I use post notify? We need to put a tag on this puppy. Would you really say the pot was big? You obviously no muncho con SC/Cardi at the all you can eat International House of Pasta. EDIT-It's really not a bad post. <---(Seinfeld's 'Its really not a bad looking shirt' voice)

...I can't believe it. For once I agree with Apple. Take heart, olivant...it happens to everybody at least once, and all proclaim this phenomenon with the same level of shame/astonishment. And then some moderator usually steps to the plate with a smartass reply that is meant to bring originality to the table. (Nice try...) Predictability...thy name is Gangster BB. Somebody pass the spaghetti!! Apple
