Is there a date set yet for the sequel for the book?

"..Your youngest and strongest will fall by the sword.."

"...Never shall innocent blood be shed; yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The THREE shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeaful striking hammer of God..."

No, from what I have been trying to find out. My guess is probably sometime in 2004 though.

WTF! How do you mean sequel? They are not setting GF 3 in a book form aren't they?

MMF There isn't a second book yet, so it would be a second not a third GF book

i don't really get this book. is it supposed to be things happening after GF 3? or is it a sequel to the first book, in which case it will 'take the place' (figuratively speaking) of GF 2 the film?

The book takes place after the first novel, other than that no one knows much about the story.

I think that Sonny is talking about this:

Florida Author Chosen to Pen 'Godfather' Sequel

Fri Feb 7,10:22 AM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Random House has made author Mark Winegardner an offer he can't refuse.

The publisher said on Friday it picked the Florida-based writer to pen the sequel to "The Godfather," Mario Puzo's 1969 tale of Mafia ties and betrayal that sold 20 million copies and inspired a trilogy of films about the Corleone family.

Winegardner, author of the novels "The Veracruz Blues" and "Crooked River Burning," directs the creative writing program at Florida State University. He lives in Tallahassee, Florida.

My guess is that it will come out 2004, maybe 2005. But I'm not sure when he was chosen to write the novel, so I could be way off.

Thank you scarface...yes i did mean the book mentioned in that particular article. Anyway, i guess i'm not the only GF fan who is in the dark about the date. I hope they issue a publishing date soon.

Is it too much to ask our Don Malta to pull a few strings and ask some friends of his about a possible date. Since this is a sequel then the publishers probably contacted Mr. Puzo's family for approval or some kind of publishing right (unless the 30 year copy-right-law is still in action). Anyway, would asking Ms. Gino be too much trouble for our DON?

From Entertainment Weekly #747, January 23/30, 2004:

THE GODFATHER: THE LOST YEARS

When Random House Invited Mark Winegardner to apply for his current gig - writing a sequel to "The Godfather" - he was flattered but bewildered; it was an offer he could maybe refuse. The author of two literary novels, he hadn't read Mario Puzo's Mafia hit since he was a kid, and then, like so many of us, he was looking for the dirty parts. ("It's true," he says. "I told that to Lorrie Moore, and the second I did, she said, 'Page 27!'")

Opening it again, he discovered an enticing hybrid of pulp and literature with an endgame that doesn't add up. Thus, "The Godfather: The Lost Years - The Saga Of The Family Corleone" will square the conclusion of the original with the facts of its film sequel. "There's this agreement to make Las Vegas an open city, and yet, with no explanation at all, they set up shop out there. Now, how does that happen?" (November, 2004)

-------------------------------------------------

Hopefully, that answers your question. I don't know - I'm torn between thinking that no one else but Puzo should write any stories about the Corleones, and yet being morbidly curious as to what this guy will do with the characters.
