It's fun to stay in the YMCA
The off season has still been quite interesting following on from the draft and thought there's some good points for discussion that probably don't deserve their own thread but can be bunched together here. Maybe you'd like to add your own.
  • Ricky Williams heads to the CFL as what was rumoured. I have completely mixed feelings on this. I genuinely want to see how he does and will watch the CFL until the NFL starts like I do most years. I’ve come to even defend the guy now, he’s being a good team mate now and saying all the right things. He wasn’t busted for weed again and the substance hasn’t been released still. For now I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt because of, for example, cases in the past of nandrolone found in meats. So I kind of wish him well until his return. On the other hand the example the CFL is showing to take on banned NFL athletes is no good. Whilst they’re separate operations the alliance shared between them should be enough not to encourage contradictions in substance abuse rulings.
  • The decision is out regarding Steve McNair and his contractual rights with the Titans’ facilities. Ruling in the player’s favour I know the right decision has been made. I honestly cannot even fathom how the Titans thought they could get away or even defend this confidently that they could think they’d win.
  • Now I’m genuinely confused with the Jets QB situation. Maybe you egg yolkers, I mean New Yorkers, can shed some light on it. The media and fans seem to have little faith in Pennington getting back to his best, despite positive reports today on his rehab. In a situation like this isn’t a proven veteran the best option to have if Pennington, a) doesn’t make it back in time or, b) goes down again. Maybe that could be Ramsey but I’ve never been completely sold on him. I do however like the 2nd rounder Clemens. Could he be the future?
  • Yes I know this is quite old news now but Flutie retiring should have made a few waves here. A guy who genuinely loved to play the game and based on his career he can always be regarded as successful. No he wont make the HOF but guys like this should be celebrated.
  • For those still with me I wanted some input regarding Santonio Holmes being arrested. The details themselves sound sketchy so as usual I’ve reserved judgement because I haven’t heard of any previous similar type of behaviour from him. Any Buckeye (Goombah) wish to inform me?

I think Holmes was arrested because he was drafted by that filthy team in Pennsylvania.

The article I saw at Fox Sports had no information pertaining to Holmes' arrest.

I think it was an interesting NFL offseason. Training camp starts next month.

  • In no major surprise, the Bills will continue their tradition of totally sucking at playing competitive football, while having the audacity to raise ticket prices, cry poormouth, and draft nearly all defensive players for a team that desperately needs offense. Passing on Matt Leinart also was pure *genius*, since the whole Bills fanbase feels totally comfortable with Craig Nall leading the team.

For the 2nd consecutive week, a Pittsburgh Steeler player is in the news for the wrong reasons. For the 2nd consecutive month Santonio Holmes is arrested .

Tune in next week when another Pittsburgh Steeler does something stupid.

Hehe, Nfl.com published my email: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9517038

It's the last one of the article regarding Carruci's five reasons why Marshall Faulk should retire.

For crying out loud, can't the Browns ever get a break?

Bentley hurts knee on first day of camp

Klydon - the Steelers should make sure to give rings to all the officials for the one-sided calls that went their way in the Super Bowl. When the Browns win it, they will win the game without controversy. I think if you ask most people what they remember about the Super Bowl, most will say all the questionable officiating calls. Never has one team gotten all the calls go their way in world's biggest football game.

What call could be more egregious than Polamalu's interception/incompletion against Indianapolis? Yet the Steelers still won the game on the field.

The Seahawks lost because they were outplayed and outcoached. The Steelers built a lead and then bled them to death. A couple of calls didn't decide it.

At least John Madden says that the Bills will finish ahead of the Jets in the AFC East, so we won't be the worst team...though I think he's wrong.

Upon comparing the schedules, with my projected win/losses:

Bills
Code:
2006 Schedule
Date	Opponent	Time/Result
Sep 10	@New England Loss
Sep 17	@Miami Loss
Sep 24	N.Y. Jets Win
Oct 1	Minnesota Win
Oct 8	@Chicago Loss
Oct 15	@Detroit Win
Oct 22	New England Loss
Week 8	BYE ---
Nov 5	Green Bay Win
Nov 12	@Indianapolis Loss
Nov 19	@Houston Win
Nov 26	Jacksonville Loss
Dec 3	San Diego Loss
Dec 10	@N.Y. Jets Loss
Dec 17	Miami Loss
Dec 24	Tennessee Loss
Dec 31	@Baltimore Loss
Overall Record: 5-11 (Which is being generous)

NY Jets
Code:
2006 Schedule
Date	Opponent	Time/Result
Sep 10	@Tennessee Win
Sep 17	New England Loss
Sep 24	@Buffalo Loss
Oct 1	Indianapolis Loss
Oct 8	@Jacksonville Loss
Oct 15	Miami Loss
Oct 22	Detroit Win
Oct 29	@Cleveland Win
Week 9	BYE ---
Nov 12	@New England Loss
Nov 19	Chicago Loss
Nov 26	Houston Win
Dec 3	@Green Bay Win
Dec 10	Buffalo Win
Dec 17	@Minnesota Win
Dec 25	@Miami Loss
Dec 31	Oakland Win
Overall Record: 8-8

The Polamalu play was one play in a terribly officiated game all around. There were at least 4, some will say 6, plays that went Pittsburgh's way in the Super Bowl. It's one thing to have a poorly officiated game where both sides benefit. But in the biggest game of the year, it's a travesty that one team got the benefit of EVERY controversial call.

If you're refering to the offensive interference in the end zone...the NFL reviewed it and found it to be a proper call; the receiver did extend his arm to create separation. It occurred in the end zone, directly in front of the ref...yeah that gets called.

Roethlisberger's touchdown? On replay the ball is right at the plane. Maybe he's in, maybe not, but you can't call it a bad call when replay can't be sure. At worst it's the Steelers ball an inch from the goal line, they burn some clock or force a Seattle TO, then pound it in on the next play. They'd done it all year.

There was nothing controversial about Willie Parker ripping through the line for a Super Bowl record breaking TD.
There was nothing controversial about Randle El's TD pass to Ward.

21-10. It's over.

But, if blaming the referees helps Bengal and Brown fans to deal with having to live in the constant shadow of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so be it.

I always felt sorry for Scott Norwood. Wasn't an automatic kick, that's for sure.
Imagine how his life would have been changed if he made the kick.

Maybe K-Mart?

He can't be reviled as much as Buckner in Boston?

Yeah well Boston has a title to suck on.

Buffalo has whats his name at Quarterback. They are in trouble...Still, I'm sure they will win more games than the Jets for sure.

Besides, this stuff about the Dolphins predicted to go neck-neck with Patriots for AFC East, I'm uneasy. Remember that the Fins defined December choking in the NFL.

Don't count on it.

I wish the fucking Bills wouldn't have been retarded (of course, with Mike Mularkey, whom I hated from the beginning) they wouldn't have switched from developing Losman to Kelly "prima donna backup of the NFL" Holcolmb in a half-assed attempt at trying to make the playoffs with a shitty defense and an offensive line that is about as effective at stopping people from getting through as the U.S. border with Mexico.

Hopefully they won't be retarded and start Holcolmb or Craig Nall and will let Losman start the entire year. We're not making the playoffs anyways - our O-line still sucks, and our defense is mediocre at best. Why not find out whether he's the quarterback of the future or not?

Gotta love the Buffalo media...at least they shit all over both quarterbacks after the game.

Anyone with half a brain who watched saw JP Losman perform better than Kelly Holcolmb. Granted, he was in for longer, and faced the 2nd and 3rd teams, but still - his passes were crisper and more accurate, he moved in the pocket, and made plays himself when necessary.

Kelly Holcolmb threw an INT for a touchdown return. Holy shit. I could've read that defender. I think he was aiming right for him. Oh well.

Let's just pray that the Bills put JP where he belongs - first on the depth chart, and getting reps with the first team, where he belongs.
