Is it just my DVD copy that during GFII, the scene right after Mike visits with Roth in his Miami home,when Pentangelli comes home to the old Corleone house during the winter. When Frankie opens the door THE SCENE FREEZES for a second and then cuts to him inside the house with his wife telling him "Michael Coreleone is here" etc...

Anybody else notice this or do I have a "defective" copy ?

Yes this also happens in the copy I own. Also in Part 111, when Michael is in bed after having a stroke, and Vincent comes in and they have a friendly chat. Everythings fine. But at the end of this, the SCENE FREEZES aswell and skips to the next scene. Something similar happens somwhere else in the movie, but I cant recall where. Does this also happen to you Tommy Gun?

I'll check the scene in GFIII your referring to. Havent seen III since I bought it last October.

this is normal on dual layer dvd's, this happens when the optic eye shifts to the other layer. . .

Yeah, this is known as a "layer change". In some discs it's less obvious than in others. Ideally, they'd put the layer change during a change in scene so the pause isn't as obvious.

there is a way around this

some dvd players, load that half a second of when it switches on2 memory so when the laser changes layers the memory cna play that half a scond with no skipping while the laser reads the second layer

must be better players don't have this problem, as I have never seen this before.

I have been told by a person who fixes DVD players that certain players cause problems with certain DVD's. Apparently a lot of DVD players will not read the James Bond collection DVD's. I have them all and eveyone works on mine. However the Toy Story box set bonus disc refuses to load up a menu, yet all scenes are still accesible.

I was told they could adjust the laser, but that may cause problems with other DVD's. They said that no player will play ALL DVD 100%. Seems strange to me.

if youre using a multi-region DVD player it will play all dvd's 100%.

I've been quite lucky with my player, considering it is very old and was practically bought when DVD's first came out (when they were about 8 million squid.) I've never had any trouble with it apart from it wont play the commentary for The Godfather. Gutted, but my mates player reads it fine so i've heard it all round there. Funny cos it plays commentaries from other DVD's.

I dont actually own a DVD player, I use my a playstation 2, and apparantly it isnt as good as a regular DVD player, which may explain my problem.

I've got the PS2 and a DVD player. I've never used the PS2 for DVD flicks. But I subscribe to several gaming magazines ( PSM, Electronic Gaming Monthly ), and every month there are letters galore regarding users having problems playing movies in the PS2. It's great Sony included the capability (in fact, it's one of the PS2's strongest selling points), but they should've done a little more homework.
