The home run derby is tonight and there are a lot of powerfull hitters participating. Who do you think is going to win it?

I'm going with Jim Thome.

Hmmm, let's see how they stack up...
Code:
Thome .289 28 61
Bonds .365 23 48
Ortiz .304 23 78
Blalock .303 23 68
Berkman .299 16 59 (replaced Griffey)
Sosa .279 16 39
Tejada .311 15 75 (replaced Giambi)
Palmeiro .247 13 52

Griffey .251 20 60 (out)
Giambi .241 11 35 (out)
Why the **** was Giambi in there, and Mr Viagra and Tejada and Berkman for that matter?

Why not some of these guys?

26HR M Ramirez
25HR Dunn
22HR A-Rod
22HR Konerko
22HR Beltre
22HR Pujols
21HR Finley
21HR Edmonds
21HR JD Drew
21HR Beltran
20HR Guerrero
20HR Lowell
20HR M Cabrera

2003 Garret Anderson edged out Pujols
2002 Giambi beat Sosa
2001 Luis Gonzalez beat Sosa
2000 Sosa beat Griffey, who had won 2 previous years

All that being said, I think Sosa is gonna crack under pressure. Especially w/o the corked bat. Thome is a good pick, but it seems the best home run hitter of the year never wins the thing. Bonds could do it, altho he's not used to anyone actually pitching to him But since he denies having been compensated to participate ( ) I would say he's the best bet due to that batting average. But wait, is the pitcher a righty or lefty?

I'm going for Bonds now that Griffey & Giambi are out. Bonds or Sosa.

I live just across the river from Philly, and I hear about Thome all the time. Not only is his hitting a lot of home runs, he is such a likable guy. Did they ever say that about Bonds?

I'll go with Sosa since Minute Maid is a park that favors right-handed hitters. I think it's time Sammy actually wins the derby.

No Offense JGeoff, but its kinda funny how Mr Viagra, Berkman and Tejada were all in the final four and also on your **** list of players in this derby.

Its a good thing Tejada was in it tho for sure, he was incredible tonight. Single round record of 15 and overall record of 27 home runs. Not bad Miguel. He's only 28 years old so I have a feeling we're going to see a lot more from Miguel for the next decade or so.

It was actually kinda expected. It's always the "B-List" who does well in these things...

Who would have guessed Tejada to win? I'm just glad Berkman didn't win. Why wasn't Piazza in it? I know Griffey & Giambi were injured, but I thought Mike was gonna be in it?

Ha, that is pretty tru JGeoff considering Garrett Anderson won last year who is pretty similar to Tejada hitting wise. Both drive in a lot of runs with a decent amount of homers but not a ton. Then again, Giambi, Sosa, and Griffey won the past four years (Griffey twice) who are all known for their power. Overall, I think anything goes in the home run derby. All it takes is one good day or one little hot streak.

What was really impressive about Tejada is how he hit 15 in the second round and still had enough energy to win the the whole thing in the final round. Last year, Pujols hit 14 in the second round and had nothing left in the finals. Tejada had 5 outs left in the finals too and could have really blown Berkman away. It was a great performance overall.

What do you have against Berkman, Irishman? He is one of the best ballplayers in the game and he seems to be a pretty good guy. Not to mention, one of George Bush Sr's favorite players.

Because he's one of George Bush Sr's favorite players. Because he plays for Houston. And he is NOT on of the best players in the game (he's good, but NOT great!)

Man Roger Clemens did a GREAT job last night! 1 inning, 5 hits, 6 runs (2 of which were home runs) in front of his hometown Houston fans! Man it doesn't get any better for me!
