I for one am so glad that the Superbowl & the football season are over! I am so sick about hearing about it. It's so overhyped (The Superbowl). Sure the game was good, but all I see on ESPN is football, football, football! There are other sports being played besides football! There are so many things better than the Superbowl such as March Madness, the NBA Finals, and the World Series. Man I can't wait until opening day!

I don't exactly HATE football, just never had the patience to sit & figure it out (even though we had to sit through it every Sunday from Sept - Jan growing up while my father dominated the tv).

However there's something fun and celebratory about Superbowl Sunday and I try to get into the mood every year. Must admit that even I found second half of this past game really entertaining...even listened to the final 3 minutes on the radio while driving home!!

Once that's overwith all I look forward to is Spring training, exhibition games and opening day in April!! There's something warm and fuzzy about the return of baseball...makes you know that summer is just around the corner!!

March Madness I bypass every year, it is a complete bore to me. No interest in basketball whatsoever.

Its difficult to hate the best sport in America. Baseball is on a decline, basketball has been corrupted and polluted by criminal players, hockey was never that huge, soccer and tennis arent even close, golf isnt even considered a sport by some. Football is the only sport that is still really great. It's in its prime if you ask me.

Ok, maybe my choice of words weren't the best. I don't hate football, but I wish everyone would stop talking about it! I agree with Apple, I LOVE opening day in baseball!

Gotta say, that isn't the most realistic wish this time of year!!

I'd guess that beginning late-November (including Thanksgiving Day games) and right up to Superbowl Sunday is the biggest time of year for ANY football talk.

Just as Sept-Oct is dominated by baseball playoffs and World Series.

I guess it all just depends on which sport one prefers. Like I say...I just ignore whatever one doesn't interest me. But let everyone else have their fun!!

I try to ignore it, but it's pretty hard when you watch ESPN & all they talk about is the Superbowl, or when you go to ESPN.com all they have is stuff talking about football. You can't help but not pay attention to it.

Well then, don't watch ESPN during late fall/early winter.

And if you do, don't be surprised if that's all they're talking about.

Because even *I*, the least sports-oriented person on this board....know that even though it's Basketball & Hockey season too, the dominant sport is gonna be FOOTBALL!!!!!!

By the way, there was plenty of baseball talk on ESPN about a month ago, when Pete Rose came out with his book and backfired confession.

I'm not gonna stop watching ESPN because football season starts. That's ridiculous! That's my only way of finding out what's going on in the world of sports. All I'm saying is that they need to cut down on the amount of air time, because not every single person who watches ESPN is a football "fanatic"

One thing that I like about football is that you can follow players for several years and know who they are before they make it to the pros. The NFL doesn't allow people to leave college until three years after their high school class graduates. So most of the players you see played at least three seasons of college ball, and people can arrive in the NFL with a reputation and a bit of legend. Players like Peyton Manning were revered and worshipped before making it to the pros, and it makes it easier to root for him. In the NBA, most of these guys seem to only be playing one or two years of college ball, so when they make it to the NBA we have no connection with them. In baseball and hockey, most of the guys toil in the minors for years, so when they get called up it's hard to get excited for them. And the fact that they play so few football games makes each one seem that much more important.

I LOVE FOOTBALL!

Carmelo played one year of ball & LeBron went straight from high school, and look how easy it is to cheer for these guys because we know who they are. As for baseball, sure when players come up they are unknowns, but when they make it, they make it BIG (just look at Derek Jeter & Alfonso Soriano of the New York Yankees)

Yes, we know who Carmelo and LeBron are, but I didn't even really get a chance to become fans. I never actually saw LeBron play that much, I just saw all of the hype stories on ESPN and stuff. But if you think back to the days where we got to root for Shaq for 3 years, or some guys for as many as 5 (like I used to for Ed O'Bannon), it's much better than today.

I totally agree with you. I wish guys would stay in college & develop their skills more. Unfortunately, if I had the talent they had, I'd probably not wanna go to class & worry about grades, but jump to the NBA & make millions of dollars. One of the main reasons I respect Tim Duncan so much is b/c he stayed at Wake Forest for 4 years, and didn't leave after his junior year. Now Timmy is a guy who could have easily gone early & been great, but he stayed their for his full time to try to win a championship. Now look at him in the NBA, 2 time NBA champion, 2 time NBA MVP, 2 time NBA Finals MVP. Not bad for staying in college for 4 years, no?

I dont really like football. The only game I watch is the Super Bowl. Football and the Super Bowl ARE way overrated. I only watch(when I have time) good sports i.e. Baseball, Hockey, and Boxing.

Football takes a lot from me. I was high this season, and losing to the Colts at Arrowhead sucked the life outta me.

I'm looking forward to baseball though. Don't care for basketball. Don't know anything about hockey.

Amen Don Sonny, amen! I'll watch the Superbowl just to watch it, but that still doesn't mean that's not overrated, which Don Sonny pointed out.

Somehow I didn't think you would take my suggestion.

However keep in mind that watching ESPN during January and becoming weary of the amount of airtime is devoted to football...is a little like entering The Godfather Trilogy forum and getting sick of everyone's discussing about The Godfather.

Incidentally...I wonder what football/hockey/basketball etc. fans find on ESPN during the month of October - anybody get sick of all the Pennant & World Series talk???

No because they never provide as much "analysis" to the games & never enoug coverage. The NBA Finals & the World Series both get shafted in terms of coverage compared to the Superbowl. The day after the Superbowl, the ESPN crew was imitating plays from the Superbowl on this field they had. Can you believe it, they were actually running the same plays they made on the game! They couldn't just reshow it, they themselves had to re-enact it! Do they re-enact baseball or basketball games? NO!

I'm sure you percieve it that way, since you prefer those sports to football.

Anyhow...I'm done with this pretty silly thread. Back to The Godfather, something I NEVER get tired of seeing or talking about!!!

It's not my perception, it's a fact. Watch ESPN this year around the Superbowl (if you did) and then watch coverage of the NBA Finals in June & the World Series in October and you tell me!

Football is the ultimate team sport. It is hard for one player to be a ballhog and try to take over the game. All of the pieces of the offense or the defense have to work together in harmony for things to work.

True, but that could also be said in baseball [/b][/quote]The batter is there by himself, not really needing to rely on anyone but himself to get the hit. Contrast this with a running back, who gets the ball from the QB, who gets the snap from the center. All five offensive linemen, plus the tight end and the fullback have specific blocking assignments, and the running back has to choose the appropriate hole to run through. If just one of these guys screws up, it could be disastrous. You can't say the same for baseball.

As Robert De Niro said so proudly in The Untouchables and I quote "When a batter comes to the plate, it's his time for what? For individual achiement! But when he's in the field, part of a what? One big unit/team! Now I get no where if the team suffers. See my point." Sure, on offense it's just the batter, but on defense everyone has to pull together just like they do in football or else they're screwed.

Like i already said, during baseball there is Baseball. thats it. Sportscenter is an hour long show of baseball games. At least 1 game is broadcasted every day. And the worst is Baseball 2night. Its on constantly- every year I want to kill Pete Gammons more & more. & I like baseball but teh season is frustrating w/o football & hoops- baseball is EVERYWHERE

but where I come from as soon we trade all our good players away by the deadline football is the talk of the city

Ok, I'd say baseball is probably the 2nd most covered sport on ESPN, but basketball still gets shafted. All I'm saying is that they should cover all the sports as equally as possible. And with football, it is FAR from being equal with baseball & basketball.

So basically football is twice the team game that baseball is

Well that's your opinion, but even so, should that mean that football deserves more coverage? No!
