I ran into Deacon Jones tonight at the Fox Sports Grill at the Irvine Spectrum.

That's awesome, man. How was he? Was he cool?

But...can you say... The Fridge?

Deacon Jones was really cool. He's funny as hell, and treated me really well. My friend was taking this picture, and I guess the flash wasn't on, so it took him a while to figure it out. But he was really patient. If you've seen him on TV before, you may notice that he's lost a lot of weight. I was talking to him about it and he said that he's dropped 60 pounds to help control his blood pressure.

Michael Strahan was also there, and I think I also saw Jack Youngblood.

That's really cool, bro. It's always cool when celebrities, 'specially sports stars, are cool and down to Earth and don't let their egos inflate. I met Jerry Rice once, but it was only breif, but he seemed really cool.

AL - I hope you were joking about mentioning the Fridge in the same breath as Deacon Jones.

Very cool, DC, plus its a nice picture.

Jones, IMO, was one of the best ever.

Heh. Yeah, he's a big guy (6'5") and I'm not (5'4"). Can't do much about that.

Great picture and moment! I recognize '75' as his number but what kind of jersey was that? It doesn't appear to be a Rams' jersey. Was his name on it?

MaryCas,

The jersey is a throwback that was introduced by Reebok. You can see examples of the ones that they've made here .

They weren't intended to be exact replicas of the old jerseys, like they are at Mitchell & Ness. If you look at the picture again, you'll notice that the sleeves have the Ram helmet on them, which is not how the original blue and white Rams jerseys looked like. But they keep to the original color schemes and try to have a throwback flavor to them. They're still mighty expensive, though. The jersey that Deacon had on did say "JONES" on the back.
