Gosh...I find it hard to believe that nobody's started a thread about this yet. Looks to be a pretty exciting pennant race in both leagues...what with Boston coming through to face the Yankees (who will prevail, of course). And in the National League the Cubs reaching post season for the first time since what is it?? 1917?

This stuff is just too good. Maybe there's a sub-thread somewhere that I've missed.

Hey, JGeoff...where's that Yankees ICON on the BB Homepage? Don't you think it's about time we got it there???

Best,
Apple

Here's what I posted to the fantasy baseball thread. Guess it belonged in a new thread for everyone else

YANKS / BOSOX

Excellent. Should be fun regardless of who wins. Of course, I prefer NY -- and to keep the Bambino Curse intact! Bad enough they got into the post-season, but they shouldn't win it! :p

CUBS / MARLINS

Okay, the other never-win team. This one I can root for! Go Cubbies! (Shit, I mean, Go Marlins! the way I curse my picks! )

NEXT ROUND

1) BOSOX / CUBS - Would be an incredible series. Two teams who've done nothing for 100 years.

2) YANKS / CUBS - Was a tough series during the regular season, but c'mon, it's not the regular season any more. Experience would play a huge part.

3) BOSOX / MARLINS - Who cares? I'd have to root for the Marlins.

4) YANKS / MARLINS - Yanks! Damn Marlins won it all in 1997, after the Yanks got knocked out. What more do they want?? :p

WTF??? I understand you'd want the Yankmes to win, but IF the Sox were playing in the Series, you'd HAVE to root for the Marlins??? And whats this "who cares" shit???

Ahem, sorry SC. But after all these years of the Bambino Curse, I will NOT allow them to break it.... Yes, that's right, *I* won't allow it

Will we still be friends after the ALCS?

As a diehard Dodger fan, my main interest in this year's playoffs, as it is every year, is to just make sure that the Giants don't win. As long as that happens, I'm cool with whoever wins it all. I guess I, like many other people in this country, are rooting for a Cubs vs. Sox World Series, so at least one of these cursed teams can finally win a World Series.

I would personally like to see the Red Sox and Cubs face off in the World Series. These two teams have been deprived of championships for decades, and I'd like to see either team win it all (preferably the Red Sox). I think the communities of Boston and Chicago should be rewarded for their faithfulness through all of those losing years; I'm a Padres fan, and I know what it's like to lose season after season, but not to the caliber of these two teams. Those damn Yankees have had too much of it, and IMHO it's time for someone else to win.

The only thing that sucks about this is that the Braves are out of the playoffs.

As for the series.

Red Sox VS Yankees. Go Red Sox(I absolutely hate the yankees)

Marlins VS Cubs. Go Marlins

Go Sox, and screw Dusty and his corked Cubs! I'm rootin' for the Marlins all the way, even though they did beat my Giants... that's right Corpuzzi, Giants fan here! You and your Dodgers suck! Money grubbin' whiners.

For us fans of any team or just of the sport, the worse thing we will have to endure is the television coverage and reporting of the games. The TV media as a whole has turned sports into an entertainment, self-promotional platform. Most of the time the game is secondary.

Things we will have to endure:
- Tim McCarver's over-analysis of every pitch, twitch and hitch (not to mention his underlying hatred of the Yankees.)
- Replay, after replay, after replay, with reverse angle, super-slow motion, helmet cam, ump cam, bleacher cam, popcorn vendor cam.....
- The constant repetition of "this could be Roger Clemens last start."
- Close up of Joe Torre's nose hair
- the innane statistic: "he's batting .333 against lefties, with runner's in scoring position, during day-games when the sun is shining, with less than two-outs, after two day's rest on artificial turf with his team ahead by more than two runs."
- Camera shots of Derek Jeters parents, or Roger Clemens wife, or Manny Ramirez's hair stylist.

I think I'll watch the Godfather Trilogy

I could live with all those, except for the first you mentioned... Tim McCarver. Why in the world is this guy around evey single year??? Who is it that thinks he's a great commentator? I mean, he gets half the player's names wrong! I'm with you, Godfather Trilogy, here I come... I can always watch the hi-lights later that night.

Apple [/b][/quote]Three years isn't that long in baseball. I believe the Yankees have reached the World Series 5 out of the last 6 years! How long has it been since the Red Sox or the Cubs reached the W.S.? A lot longer. That goes to show what a franchise can do with a $125 million payroll.

They lost to AZ in 2001 and I believe got eliminated by the Angels in last year's ALCS. That's two years since becoming World Champs. It's time to get that trophy back, and raise that flag at the Stadium next April!

Oh, and by the way...Sox were last in World Series in 1986. We all know what happened in Game 6 with one out (and wasn't it one strike) to go.

GO YANKEES!!!!

Well, since my team is already out(the braves), I think it would be nice if it ended up with Chicago vs. Boston. The same matchup of the 1918 world series, the last time Boston has won. Now they have the curse of the Bambino. Plus the cubs not winning since 1908 is a cool fact too. I think it would be cool to see the 2 teams who have gone the longest without winning the WS battle it out.

No kidding. I was joking around, y'know.

I know. I'm just having a little fun with some Yankee fans here; I'm still green with envy from the World Series of 1998. The Padres made the series for the second time in their history (the last time being 1984 vs. the Tigers). The whole community of San Diego was excited and brought together, only to have its heart broken by a sweep. There were definitley some crucial calls that went to NY during that series, and ultimately decided some games.

Sorry if I came off as a prick, Apple. It's either you're with the Yankees or you're against them, and I'm just not with them. I believe there should be a salary cap in baseball just like the other major sports. Thank you for your insight, and may the best team win!

Today was a great day for baseball. The Red Sox showed up ready to play against the rested Yankees, and the Cubs just battered the Marlins pitching staff. Things are looking really good; we're one game closer from seeing the Cubs vs Red Sox in the World Series.

Truer words were NEVER spoken!!

Though in any other case I would be happy for the Sox or Cubs if either went all the way...I certainaly can't root AGAINST my Yankees just because some other team deserves a chance!!

So again I'll say...GO YANKEES! And last night's game shouldn't be too much of a hinderance. There was probably a reason why Torre had Mussina pitch the opening game.

Tonight, Pettit had better be his usual 'brilliant' self.

How many replays and angles did we see of the foul-pole homerun? I thought they had a foul-pole cam? Maybe FOX doesn't have the money.

Do you think there are more cup-grabs or more spits?

I was wondering if that asshole fan who stuck his arm out had any effect on the call being reversed!!

When will jackass fans learn NOT to mess with a ball that's in play? (don't worry, I know the answer....)

AOY,

According to the Daily News, the kid and surrounding fans say the ball was foul. I'm surprised they didn't call fan interference. If they did, what would the call have been? Fair, foul, do-over?

The wild-card in the Cubs/Marlins series is Clement. If he can pitch well, then you know the you can count on Wood & Prior for the other 2 games.
