Yo BDD, what's up! That chat transcript was friggin' hilarious! Why did you leave out the 15 minutes PL and I spent talking statistics? Wasn't in the transcript? :p

Anyway, if you aren't joining here ([SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE] WUSS [/SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE]), then I'll see you in baseball then - and yes, everyone is playing this year.

Not only am I gonna play and defend both my first half and overall titles, but I may drop out of the second half of basketball so I can concentrate on spring training.

Hey DB. I didn't see the last 15 minutes of the transcript with you and PL discussing the statistical probability of Pork staying in the top 3 for over a week? I think even the computer got bored and stopped recording. :p

Regarding baseball - well what I said will still apply. If at the time I'm not hitting the board during the day - than where is the fun? Hell if I take the time I spent trash talking and put it towards my players picks I might even win - you know I beat both Pork and Buffy in the second half. Would have beaten them the first half - but I did start 10 days late, I'm not sure if I ever told you that. The whole fun is the trash talking that's the only reason I play, besides baseball is a sissy sport, not a real sport like football. Of course I lose to Pork in that one but I did win the Survival Pool - did you know that ?

Ok so you best be getting out of work, it is Friday night.

It looks like Leap Year is playing havoc with the Fantasy Game... it goes from Saturday 2/28 right to Monday 3/1 -- with Feb 28 listed twice in the weekly box scores Our picks for "tomorrow" are dated Monday.

I wonder if they'll fix it in time for tomorrow...

The good thing though is that the games we are picking from are the actual Sunday game. Hopefully, nothing gets screwed up.

I would have to pee into a cup?? Why are you picking on me??... You never know, Buffy could have used steroids during last year's baseball season. Didn't help much though! :p

JG won the league during football season - yep, that's right, Pork was on drugs as well. BDD too (during his two game win streak in Football Survivor)!

As for FS... hmmm... he didn't get his supply in the first half so he quit! :p

Well Little Pee- then you better get your butt in gear, get off the computer and go to the game as it starts in less then 50 mins.

By the way are you sell programs, pepsi or those foam fingers?

well, Kobe is THE man! did you see this triple-double? 25 pts, 14 rebs, 10 ast. he will get player of the month honors for sure, and since he got his MVP award stolen last year, he's trying to get one. if he was playing half of what he is right now (33 PPG, 9,8 RPG and 7,6 APG last 6 games) the whole season he could get it.

My suggestion for Sunday, assuming they don't fix the scores, was to be as follows:

If you go to "transactions" on your team's home page, and select Feb 28 as both the start and end date, and then post thoe transactions the same way you would a picture, we could figure out what your team was for yesterday, score it, add the score to your total, and subtract the duplicate Saturday score.

However, when I tried to do that, all I got was the little box with the "Red X" in it.

I remember JG did something like that during the baseball season, so maybe he can help us here.

If not, I believe if you copy your transaction log onto an MS Word document, and post that, we can accomplish the same thing, except there is no way to verify that what's in the Word doc hasn't been altered.

Feb. 28, 09:23 PM Added Elton Brand for 22.60
Feb. 28, 09:23 PM Dropped Kenyon Martin for 19.20
Feb. 28, 09:23 PM Added Kevin Garnett for 27.90
Feb. 28, 09:23 PM Dropped Lamar Odom for 16.70
Feb. 28, 09:23 PM Added Jeff Bzdelik for 2.50
Feb. 28, 09:23 PM Dropped Lawrence Frank for 3.40
Feb. 28, 09:24 PM Added Andre Miller for 16.20
Feb. 28, 09:24 PM Dropped Jason Kidd for 20.70
Feb. 28, 09:24 PM Added Kobe Bryant for 21.00
Feb. 28, 09:24 PM Dropped Michael Finley for 16.60
Feb. 28, 09:25 PM Added Nene for 13.60
Feb. 28, 09:25 PM Dropped Elton Brand for 22.60
Feb. 28, 09:26 PM Added Amare Stoudemire for 15.60
Feb. 28, 09:26 PM Dropped Nene for 13.60
Feb. 28, 09:27 PM Added Vlade Divac for 14.90
Feb. 28, 09:27 PM Dropped Shaquille O'Neal for 22.60

The last guy you added at each position on Feb 28 would be your team for the 29th.

So I had Divac (15), Stoudamire (36), Garnett (34), Miller (16), and Bryant (15). Coach was Bzdelik (5).

Total: 121

(Hey, no wonder I'm doing crap. I spent four minutes picking my team .)

Obviously, as I said, the problem with the above is there is no way to verify that changes weren't made after the fact.

Another suggestion would be to pick someone with a clear head and a sound mind that has no prejudices -- someone like Guinea Pig -- and we all send him our passwords and let him do the work.

Too bad we can't see eachother's transaction logs like we could in baseball. Any other ideas?

I'll be very surprised if they don't fix it by today, plaw. There are prizes on the line (in the universal game), aren't there? My guess is the programmers took the weekend off.

As for me, my guards sucked last night... big guys did OK. I'm not doing the math yet, in anticipation of them fixing the problem. I also can't remember who I picked for a coach!

Here's my line-up:

Bibby (Sucked )
Wade (Sucked even more )
Garnett (34 by plaw's calc)
Stoudamire (36 by plaw's calc)
Shaq (24 if I remembered it correctly from last night)

Alright, I looked it up... It turns out I had the Denver coach (no way I'm going to try to spell his name without looking it up ), and it turns out he won!

Also, I did the quick math for Bibby and Wade, and don't hold me to this because I basically just eye-balled the math, but I think Bibby and Wade scored 19 and 4 respectively. Bibby, didn't do as bad as I expected. Wade though was putrid. No field goals, five turnovers... Played only 24 minutes... In a word, TERRIBLE.

Feb 29th will not count (Games Admin, 9:37AM PST, Mar 1, 2004)

Quote:
After deliberation on the subject it has been determined that yesterday's (Leap Day - Feb 29) stats will NOT count for ANY entry in VGM. Note this is ONLY applicable to the DAILY game (Weekly roster remain in tact). So if you're playing the daily game it's as if the day never happened. We are currently in the process of changing the database to reflect this for your entries.

Given the circumstances we believe this to be the best solution to continue the integrity of the game. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this.

-Games Admin

Ps. For legal disclaimers on this subject see section 8f (Entry Errors).

For simplicity sake, I do not think we should try overriding this official decision.

I'm with the majority on this one, but I agree with JG - for simplicity, we should just go along with ESPN's decision.

Uh-oh.

I feel a controversy coming.

Why shouldn't we count the day if we have a way of determining who scored what?

JG, do you know how to instruct us to post the transaction log for Feb 28 directly from the site like you did early last baseball season?

Feb 28th isn't an issue, it's Feb 29th. And, there is no game log for Feb 29th as reported by this game. As Tom Hagan would say, it's as if she never existed. And I stand by that. NOT because I don't want to - I don't even have a clue how I did - but because I think it'd be too much math to worry about ONE stinkin' DAY out of an entire half-season.

And it's not that I don't trust people. But why worry over ONE DAY of the season? Sure, MAYBE, in the end it may have made a difference. But, according to this game, it didn't exist. So be it, as far as I'm concerned.

Look at the 4th Place whiner trying to gain some points that he may or may NOT gain with this added math burden... :p

I'd rather worry about TOMORROW instead of YESTERDAY. We're all in the same boat. I'd find another life preserver...

There is a transaction log.

When I made my suggestion at6:28 AM, I had no idea how I did either. Then I went back and calculated my score at 7:03. I still had no idea how everyone else did.

I still haven't calculated DB's, altho from his comments it appears i may have picked up a few points. But I have no idea how everyone else did. This is not motivated by self interest. I may have lost ground to everone else for all I know.

I had Garnett. So, probably, did everyone else. Except for Stoudamire, the rest of my picks were nothing special.

Quote:
I think it'd be too much math to worry about ONE stinkin' DAY out of an entire half-season.

I'll worry about the math. Once I had my transaction log for that day, it took me about one minute to figure out who was on my team, and another 3-4 minutes to go back to the box scores and score them. So I'm looking at 30-45 mins of work, which I'm more than willing to do.

Once we know everyone's score for the day, we can just add in to every day's cumulative score.

Quote:
why worry over ONE DAY of the season? Sure, MAYBE, in the end it may have made a difference.

Well, let's see...A heated battle for third place overall (or was it the first half? I forgot) between you and Buffy in a six month baseball season came down to the difference in points that you got by starting one day early.

And the battle for third between you and Crabby in the first half of this game went down to the last day.

There could be a 30 or 40 point difference on Feb 29 between any two playere, and that could certainly make a big difference in the final standings, even if it's only to dtermine who finishes 5th or something.

Quote:
But, according to this game, it didn't exist. So be it, as far as I'm concerned.

But it did exist. This isn't ESPN's game. This is our game. ESPN is simply hosting it and keeping track of our stats.

We all made picks for that day. The games were played. The picks we made are available, as are the scores. Why shouldn't they count?

I'd be curious to see your team for Feb 29. Maybe it's you looking for the life preserver. :p

Why should the integrity of our whole season be comprised for the sake of "simplicity"?

I'd like to hear more from you on the subject.

BTW (and I'm sure this won't influence your opinion), I checked your score -- 122.

Hey, JG....This isn't considered arguing with a moderator in public, is it?

Another (perhaps lame) idea:

We could put it to a vote by a few impartial judges who are familiar with the game, but not participating.

I'd suggest SC, BDD, LDV, FS, and Crabby.

Hmmm... I gained 1 point on plaw... On second thought, let's count the Feb. 29 games! Of course, I'm joking.

Let me see... The more I thought about it, I don't want there to be an asterisk next to the championship for the second half. Both plaw and JG make good arguments. What I think is, when we signed up for this game, we signed up to play everyday, whether or not ESPN has some sort of computer glitch. We are all friends here - I don't doubt for a minute that you guys aren't arguing for self-interest.

What I meant earlier by simplicity was two-fold. First, I didn't want to have anyone go through the trouble of the math/added work. Just looking out for you plaw... But if plaw is willing to do it, JG, what's the harm in that. The second step is more complicated. Not everyone visits here everyday. TM, SP - they might not know what even happened. I don't know if we can get those guys to post their transaction logs. What I said earlier though stands... If it's a one-time added 30 minutes of work that plaw is willing to do, fine. If it's an added 30 minutes of work everyday, I don't think you should have to go through that trouble. (I say this without knowing how you exactly tabulate scores.)

But -- that aside -- let me say that I swear -- on the souls of my grandchildren -- that I will not be the one to break the peace that we have made here today.
