Max Payne(2) is pretty cool too, not much the game but the detective style narrating.

Tommy Vercetti is my favorite of the current generation of games. Ray Liotta just reeks of awesomeness. C.J. from San Andreas was pretty cool, but Tommy and his crew would wipe out the Grove Street families without breaking a sweat.

As for my all-time favorite, that would be Mario, of course.

Personally, I liked the GTAIII main character the best. (Some know him as Fido, others as Claude, some just call him the GTAIII Guy.) He had a mysterious vibe going on, that said "Don't fuck with me". I mean, he get's shot in the gut by Catalina during a heist, which leads to his arrest, so what does he do? He breaks out of prison, get's close to the major crime figure heads and mob/gang/syndicate leaders in town, kill's a great majority of them off, and all so he can close enough to Catalina to kill off her crew, and then kill her.

Anyway's, the new generation of games aside, I've always been a fan of Donkey Kong, and Toad from Mario.

"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."

Nintendo (8-bit) Era
Mario

16-bit era
Link (Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past)

32/64-bit era
Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid series)

current generation
I changed my vote, it's now Naked Snake (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater); a.k.a. Big Boss, father of Solid, Liquid, and Solidus Snake, and the baddest videogame character of all time, IMO.

Favorite of All Time
Mario (Super Mario Bros., duh!)

long_lost_corleone, I like your synopsis (is that the right term?) on the main character from GTA:3. BTW, did you catch his cameo in San Andreas? Hell, you even do a set of missions with Catalina!

I would say Tommy Vercetti and the Scarface emulated theme of GTA Vice City is one of my favorite games.I also agree with an earlier post that said how Tommys guys would crush CJ and the grove street clovers.I also see this very relative to Street gangs now like crips, bloods and black wallstreet who make no comparison to original gangs and gangsters. The word Gangster ......is now Gangsta and that should say enough.

This is also a reason i felt San Andreas is just a hoodlum version of all the games of the grand theft auto series.

Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. It basicly turns your computer into an arcade machine. I have no idea how to do it but I'll ask a friend of mine for the site he used to set mine up. It's to cool for school, I have Mortal Kombat II and NBA Jams set up right now. Its like going to the arcade for free.

The Master Chief from Halo is by far the greatest of all characters. He simply kicks ass, doesn't take shit from anyone and is always angry. Oh man, he is my hero. When I have a son I will name him Master Chief.
