Electronic Arts released a statement today saying they are planning on releasing a Mature-rated game based upon the Godfather Trilogy!!! Wow!!!

i cant wait! I wonder what type of gameplay it will be. Im thinkin something like GTA.

I bet it will be a cross between Mafia and GTA, something which I've wanted for a long time.

mafia did not suck at all, It is a great game, tho the graphics could be alittle better. I wish the storyline was non-linear tho, that way you dont have to play as a rat.

The console port of Mafia wasn't very good, but the original (and cheaper) version for PC is superb.

But as aforementioned, the linear storyline does take it down a bit. If it was a little more of an open environment like GTA and had the customization of a game like, oh, say Jedi Academy where you can choose your destiny, it would be awesome.

Godfather game though...I'm not sure how they will pull it off without keeping a somewhat linear storyline to the Trilogy.

Hey Patrick...You probably played Mafia on the PS2 right? Try it out for Xbox. It is so much better. I swear it's night and day!

X-Box doesn't have a particularly good controller though...

Good point Deathkiss, but they are judging and trying to build hype for GF4.

Mafia still kicked ass in my opinion but it could've been improved. The thing you need to remember is this game has been in the works since before GTAIII came out. IF they were quicker and managed to get it out before GTAIII for that time it would've been awesome. I still love it though.

Is gamespot.com a reliable source? If it is it should be a pretty good game. It'd be pretty cool if the game came out at the same time as GFIV...

Yes Gamespot is very reliable, however some games that go into the "works" also do not make it to release. However I am sure they will want to release this because they know they will make mucho $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Sofia Coppola to likely reprise the role of Mary Corleone for footage included on the Godfather Trilogy video game. She is among only three cast members who have been asked to participate in the project, along with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro.

EA hopes to lure A-Listers to The Godfather

With journalistic whistles firmly whetted by the prospect of a Godfather videogame comes some interesting words from within publisher EA on the title, via Eurogamer.net. According to insider reports, the publisher is hoping to lure original film-stars Robert de Niro and Al Pacino to record new material for the game, which is currently expected to be out in consoles in late 2005.
The Godfather videogame is not billed as a one-off by EA however, with strong hopes for a series of titles forming part of their strategy of building up powerful gaming brands to be milked mercilessly. Rumour has it that film director's daughter Sofia Coppola may also be involved - having appeared in the third movie.

Aligning games with Hollywood appears to be part of EA's wider strategy to give games mass appeal, but the enlistment of such talent would be immense even by this publisher's impressive standards. If the new game material created is of good quality however, their inclusion could certainly add oodles of quality and panache. We await more details with interest.

I'm not so sure about this-will they be able to pull this off? I guess we'll see when it comes out though-if its not what people expect it to be it sure would look good in my collection.

This game has me nervous as hell. They have the potential to royally fuck up the Corleones and I am going to see 10 year old kids running around thinking they're in the mafia. It also scares me that a new book is coming out and that means GF4 is comeing out, which is a VERY scary thought.

Umm, that's already happened. :p

And besides, it's only a movie or two. It's not like their going to say "we are giving China full authority to rule the world." That would be something to be nervous about.

Slow loading time, sub par graphics, poor gameplay, weak backgrounds. The camera angles were all wrong for that game.

But if EA is putting out a Godfather Trilogy video game. I'm sure we'll be in good hands!

I thought MAFIA was quite good, sure its linear story-line sucked but the whole 'world' was very interactive, a good game for its time.

I hope this game is just amazing. I have a Gamecube, but if the game is any good I will buy another console just to play it. No doubt Nintendo won't host it.....very disappointing.
