Apparently Henry Hill himself was offered the lead in THE SOPRANOS but turned it down because of its minimal 2-year commitment but also because of lack of interest.

But what if.....Lliota WAS Tony Soprano....how would things play out?

I don't think it would have worked as well, since James Gandlefini IS TONY!

Gandolfini is Tony, and there's only one of each. Liotta would've been awful. Not a patch on JG's screen presence.

Liotta isn't big enough. He wouldn't having the hulking presence that Gandolfini brings to the role.

Ray Liotta is such a great actor. I think he could play any role he was given.

Liotta doesn't have the Tony Soprano voice. I love how Gandolfini sounds as Tony, it's what I associate most with the character, well, that and his audible breathing.
