Jackie was acting boss. Tony, Larry Boy, Jimmy, etc. were the capos. All the guys at the table when Tony said the next boss should be Junior, right?

So Junior and Tony were equals? Why did Junior then say to Tony later on, "You may run North Jersey but you don't run your uncle?"

Tony's house just doesn't jive with his ranking early on. Wouldn't Silvio be in a house that size by now? That's a multi million dollar house. Especially with two kids to raise. Paulie must have millions if Tony could afford that house early on in the show when he was a capo.

good observations oblong. tony may have had such a glamorous house due to his father's influence in the family years before. i'm not really confident in my explanations here.junior was underboss when jackie was boss, but when the latter died all the other capos still have to confirm junior's new role as boss. this is usually the case in most Families i think. just because someone is underboss doesn't grant him the definite role as the heir to take over the business. when junior became boss, tony was bumped up to underboss and paulie walnuts became capo of soprano's crew. as for tony running new jersey, i think junior is referring to the territory, of which the soprano crew was in charge. tony only becomes acting boss because of junior's house arrest; if junior was to die, then the other capos would have to first give the affirmative on tony's ascension to boss, just as they did for junior.

hope this helps,
mick

That is correct. Johnny-Boy was a silent partner in F-Note Record, that Hesh ran. In the episode "A hit is a hit" Tony says, that's what bought him his house.
