HBO just aired the Pine Barrens episode this past Sunday. I loved it!

Can't wait for them to air season 4.

Thanks for the info Don Corpuzzi! did you see the T.V. guids top 50 shows of all time? Sopranos came at number 5.

Leonard: I dont know. See, I have this condition.
Teddy: Well, I hope its not as serious as his, 'cos this guy's dead.

Yeah DP I saw the list, as far as I'm concerned The Sopranos should of been number 1. But oh well.

By the way thanks for the info Don Corpuzzi. That's a wonderfull birthday gift, well sort of, one day after.

What else was on the top 100 shows? Is there a website that lists all this? Having the Sopranos as the #5 show of all time is quite an honor, seeing that the show has only been around for 3 seasons.

I'm glad that the 3rd season is coming out before they begin to air the 4th season. I need a 3rd season review and I would prefer to get this review before I see the 4th season.

Here's a copy of the box art for the DVD:

And here's the description:

HBO just announced the third season of The Sopranos for a DVD release on August 27th. The set will retail for $99.98 as usual and will feature anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks on all of the episodes. Extras include audio commentaries by Michael Imperioli (Episode9), Steve Buscemi (Episode 11), and David Chase (Episode 12), A Day on the Set of The Sopranos featurette, a recap of seasons one and two, as well as the usual trailers and recaps that the other two season sets included, and more.

I can't wait!

I assume the DVD is for purchase and not to rent right??? I don't have a DVD, and usually wait for it to come out on video and rent it. But that takes almost a year. Any idea when it will be released for rental? Either on DVD or video?

Typically, the DVDs hit Blockbuster the same time they hit store shelves for purchase. One of the Sopranos sites (either http://www.sopranoland.com or http://www.the-sopranos.com) claim the DVD set will probably be out more like Oct. or Nov. I hope Aug. 27th is the actual date!

I'm not really sure what happened. The image link should have been...

http://dvdmedia.ign.com/dvd/image/sopranos3_box.jpg

...but somehow it ended up something like...

http://dvdmedia.ign.com.dvd.image.sopranos3_box.jpg

When doing an image link, just copy/paste the link from the address bar to be sure it's right.

I believe that season 2 hit the Blockbuster shelves pretty soon after the DVDs were released in the stores. But the date given in the specs is for the DVD release.

While we're on the subject of VHS vs. DVD, I would strongly suggest purchasing a DVD player as soon as it is financially possible. DVD is so much better than VHS (just like how CDs were better than cassettes), and in a few years VHS tapes will virtually disappear from the shelves, just like how cassetes are nearly impossible to find these days at the music store.

I understand that DVDs cost money, but I think eventually the majority of people with have DVD players. The longer you hold out, the more you miss!

I second that, Don Corpuzzi. I never realized what kind of quality I was missing until I went out and got a DVD player. My next goal is the much coveted HDTV...but that's some major $$$$.
I appreciate the info. on The Sopranos 3, too, comrades. That's also my goal!

HDTV is awesome! I don't have it, but whenever I go to the electronics stores and see their plasma screen TVs, I am amazed by how clear the picture is. Watching sports events on HDTV would be great, especially if I'm watching the Lakers take home title #3.

Again you're right DC, I had no idea what I was missing by not having a DVD player.

I'm in the process of replacing all my VHS movies, with DVD's.

All I can say is it's going to take awhile. Heck I still have to get Season 2 on DVD. I have season 1.

If people will pay $20 for a 2 hour DVD, then paying $80 for 13 1 hour episodes with high re-watchability is totally worth it, in my opinion.

I have probably watched season 1 and 2 at least 3 times each.

I can see your point, if you break it down that way...Godfather DVD collection $65.00 By 20 hours running time for all five disc....$3.25 Hr. HBO screwing you for $80.00 by 13 Hours..$6.15.

After having 12 HBO channels on Cable and seeing the last season on every dam day, I guess I just don't think it is worth it at this time...five years from now when you want to look back...yea maybe. Look at the first season then look at this one and notice the changes in so many things....

I'll wait and pick that collection on the used market or discount section later for peanuts.... Now the GF DVD collection, I had to have the first day...period! So I'm a jerk...oh well

Let's look at the GF DVD collection realistically. Three movies that average 3 hours each. (Part II the longest, III checking in under 3 hours). That's nine hours of REAL entertainment vs. thirteen hours of the Sopranos. The 12 year old one hour documentary, and the outtakes from the first two movies don't count as hours. They're just extras. So HBO has shown all of the eps lately so if you watched why buy? I didn't watch season 3 again knowing it would be out of DVD so I don't feel this conflict. Anyway you'll see the price ratio even out if you don't include the extra as hours because it's not plotline entertainment. It's a good deal nevertheless. Esp. if you have a Costco membership.

Welcome, Hyman Roth! Another fellow Southerner (living in the capitol of the South, no less)! Anyway, I may be in the minority here, but I consider The Sopranos real entertainment. Each episode builds upon the other and it reaches a wider audience than just your average Mafia fans. Granted, it can't reach "classic cinema" status because, unlike the GF Trilogy, it's a TV series and not a movie. However, just like any show, you always catch something you didn't catch before if you watch it multiple times. While I can understand why some may not want to see each episode more than once or get the DVD collection (it may not be their cup of tea), I nonetheless consider it very entertaining. Besides, the numbers can't lie: it's one of the highest rated series on TV right now.

Look at X-Files or The Star Trek-Next Generation sets, which are about $100-110 dollars.

Some of these box sets are complete rip offs.

I suppose everyone's tastes are different, M.F.M. As we say down South, "one man's crap is another man's treasure." I've got all 5 X-Files sets (seasons 1-5) on DVD...so, roughly about half a grand investment. For some, that's a waste of money, but for me (my ol' lady's a big fan too), it's well worth the money. And, like I said, it may suit some folks to just see each Sopranos episode only once (or even not at all), and that's cool, too. But personally (i.e., speaking only for me ), I think such box sets have tons of replay value IF the particular show is your thing.
