How serious is the film industry about making a Godfather part IV? Are most of the conversations surounding this topic pure rumors, fantasy, and speculation?

There has been interest expressed by Andy Garcia (Vincent) but FFC hasn't shown much interest and Paramount won't green light it yet. Puzo and FFC disscused a Part IV before Puzo died. It would inclued a storyline about Sonny (He was Puzo's favorite charecter), and be in the format of GF II (with the flashback thing).

Everything I've seen, and read, leads me to believe that it won't happen though.

I had a feeling. Especially with the Author passed on. Even if they do have a written "part IV" we still won't have the one on one chemestry between Puzo and Coppola. Which is a shame.

As far as I can see, Godfather IV would not feature Michael. I just can't imagine a Godfather film without Al Pacino. For me, The Godfather saga is Michael's story more than anyone elses.

I noticed on the Channel 4 website with the top 100 screen stars, that Leonardo DiCaprio was approached to do a prequel to the godfather, but instead opted for Gangs Of New York. Does anyone have any more light to shed upon this?

well im sure that if there is an existing script for a gf4 then im sure it will be good. remember ffc did go around changing the scripts all the time. so what would be the difference if he fine tunes things here and there. also im sure if they are smart enough they will add something in there for pacino. it would just be plain stupid and idiotic if they didn't. i feel that the only way mike can finally suffer/make his peace, he needs to see the family finally destroyed. and who better then vincent, whose father nearly destroyed the family. such an interesting and emotional story i tell you. but only if they are smart and know how to tell it.

A story surrounding Vincent destroying the family as Michael watched would be intresting. But why show his death in GFIII if they wanted to continue with Michael?

Coppola even said he wanted the title to be "The death of Micheal Corleone" instead of GF III.

Based on what Luca's Boy has said, the makers should close the Trilogy then; then maybe start another series without the "GODFATHER" title. That way nobody gets hurt or insulted if it isn't quality stuff.

ok obviously they have shown his death in part 3. but mike only dies in 1997 and the story would probably take place in the late 80's to early 90's. im sure they can fit mike in there somewhere. even if they can explain his death a little more. maybe show him die at the same time as let's say someone whacks vinnie. wouldn't that be interesting. so emotional i get tears just thinking it.

allthough we'd all want another part in the GF-series i doubt the fact whether it would be wise to make another gf-movie. the godfather is, i believe, michael corleone; this trilogy is about him and what shaped him. at the end of part 3 he presumably dies so it would be very unappropriate to give the story a swing, thereby downgrading the whole series. it was good, but it lies in the past, all we can do is look at the movies yet another time.

This I can agree with. If only we could take back all the really horrible sequels that ruined their forerunners.
