If I remember correctly, he was the boss of the Camorra, the organized crime of Campania and Napoli in particular.

He was arrested some time ago.

Di Lauro was head of the clan of the same name (which is part of the allianza di secondigliano). He was the most important boss the drugtrade. When he went in hiding (ROS task force at the Ass), his son Cosimo overtook, and he was a bad boss (looked after girls, and not after the business). Soon there was internal problems. A faction (with good connections to spain) called the Spanisch or the scissionisti under the leading of Raffaele Amato broke off. Between the two factions started a very bloody war, bringing public attention. Interior Minister Pisanu sent a load of cops and carabinieri. And the finally caught them all (old di lauro, cosimo, and amato in spain). The old one and some family members recently got sentence to each 43 years. Cosimo is still waiting for his trial.
