I think about the Bosses.

The Chin failed to kill Frank Costello, I want to know if he killed with his own hand someone or if he became a boss without killing anyone

John Gotti was with Angelo Ruggiero and Ralph Galione in 1973 when he was "supposed" to make his bones, killing Mc Bratney who was supposed to kidnap and kill a Carlo Gambino`s nephew, but the one who pulled the trigger was Galione, so did John Gotti become a boss without killing anyone by his own?

You don't have to pull the trigger, just participate or aide in a murder. Joe Valachi only rented an apartment that hitmen could stay in, and that was good enough.

But, how could the bosses give orders to kill someone when they never killed anyone themselves?

It`s like you asked your son not to smoke when you are a tabacco adict.

You'd have to ask them

I think every mob-boss killed somebody when they were soldiers/associates...

A boss can do anything he wants to do--that's why he's the boss.
And, one of the things a boss can do is to "make" someone, whether or not that person actually killed anyone. Supposedly, there's a "rule" that says that an associate can't become a "made" guy until he kills on the boss's orders. Like all Mafia "rules," it isn't binding.
So, let's say a guy gets "made" without killing anyone, because the boss likes him, or he did some other favors for the boss, or he was a good earner--whatever. If that guy's really clever, he can rise in the family hierarchy. Then he can become the Don by force of personality, by guile, or by ordering others to whack his rivals.

Also, After the Donnie Brasco incident with the Bonnano family isn't it required to be initated as a made guy into any crime family to whack someone? They know that FBI or any other law enforcement official can't participate in any hit or acts of violence. I thought I heard this from past postings in this thread.

Was Donnie Brasco close to kill for the Bonanno family in the real life like it is showed in the movie?

What happen if an FBI agent or a cop(undercover) is told to kill someone and nobody in the law enforcement is not there to help him to avoid the killing? Does he have to kill?If he does, what could happen?
