I know the pope died a few days ago may he rest in peace. But this question might be a little bit wierd but ill still ask. Now does the pope have any kind of connections to the mafia? after seeing GF3 it kinda of made me think they do.

There have been rumors that Pope John Paul (I) was assassinated by the Mafia. The Mafia theory is a lot like that in the Godfather III. He was supposedly killed because he refused any dealings La Cosa Nostra as apposed to the previous priest who allegedly did.
Now, it has been 26 years since Pope John Paul's death and Pope John Paul II was only shot at once, and as far as we know such things never happened again.
This could mean A: Pope John Paul II was involved with the Mafia (highly unlikely); B: after the rumors got out about Pope John Paul (I)'s death the Mafia either corrupted other high officials in the Vatican or completely dropped such rackets; C: Pope John Paul II had better security (i.e. the Popemobele); or D: the entire Mafia conspiracy thing never happened.
While most of this is all speculation, it is a fact that there have been quite a few corrupt Popes in the past, some involved in the Mafia. Puzo even claimed that the Borgias (whom Puzo's last book, The Family is about) was Italy's first crime family and the family was headed by none other then Pope Alexander the 4th is it?
