There are many gangs in New York..I think

What would be the use of the mafia to kill them. They are not a real enemy. They don't play with the big stuff. Killing them will them only get more problems (police etc).

Do the mafia even have such power and control of city's like new york nowadays? Of which they would be able to limit any other gangs rise to power such as the bloods, yakuza, triads etc

I believe that yes. But my question is that you name different kind of 'gangs'. The bloods is a gang, that's right, but the Yakuza isn't a gang anymore this is the Mafia of China. Don't know if the bosses in NY have the power to destroy the Yakuza but they have certain the power to kill the bloods (but as I said: what is the use).

The mafia and gangs don't mix...

Mafia is more organized, more calculated. Whether its a hit, a drug sale, or a gambling ring, it's all figured out and planned.

Street gangs do everything too sporadically...shoot outs and random drug sales are the reason they get busted...that, and the Omerta is far more powerful than snitches get stitches.

It's all a matter of the brains behind the brawn...
