1. What was the largest membership in each of the 5 Families? If you can remember.

2. Can someone explain to me what happened to Carlo Gambinos son? A possible kidnapping that took place in the 70's before the old Don passed.

3. There was a Bonnano Boss who was gunned down in the 70's. He was feared by many other Families. What was his name? And what was it about him that they feared?

4. I don't remember asking this question, but in your opinions who do you think orhestrated the killing of Joe Colombo? There are 3 possible theories: The Gallo brothers had been associated with other criminal groups that the gunman was from. A second theory is Carlo who was very unhappy about the publicity Joe's league was taking. A 3rd theory was that the government had set up the hit because they were afraid of the power Colombo was acquiring through the League and the embarrassment he was causing them. There were too many loose ends to unravel, and like most mob hits, this one was to go into the "too hard" basket.

5. Did any Mob members within the 5 Families kill a cop or federal agent? I read somewhere that Genevese members slew some plainclothes detectives because they though that they were rivals from another Family that they had beef with.

1. The Gambinos in their prime were said to be the largest, with over 500 made men.
2. The guy you're thinking about was Carlo Gambino's nephew. He was kidnapped for ransom and murdered anyway by James McBratney, who in turn was killed by Gotti and two others. Gambino hired Roy Cohn to defend Gotti, who got off with a manslaughter convinction and served less than five years. Gambino's sons ran the Garment Center trucking rackets for Castellano and Gotti.
3. The Bonanno boss who was gunned down was Carmine Galante.
4. No one really knows exactly what happened at Columbus Circle in 1971. The first theory--that Crazy Joe Gallo arranged it--has been pretty well debunked over time. The most logical current scenario is that Carlo Gambino ordered it to shut Columbo's mouth. One little factoid sticks in my mind: no one knows the background or motivation of the gunman, because he was instantly killed by Columbo's bodyguards. A bit convenient, don't you think? An inside job?
5. I'm sure some cops and federal agents were killed by mobsters over the years. I'm guessing that they were crooked, and there was a "conspiracy of silence" on both sides: neither the cops nor the mob wanted to acknowledge that there were such things as crooked cops or mob murders of cops.

The hit on mcbratney was done by gotti,
angelo ruggerio and a soldier named
galione,galione screwed it up and
Gambino had him killed,w/no witness
to counter, gotti got 2 years for
2nd degree manslaughter.
Carmine the cigar Galante was hit out
on a patio at a bistro on mulberry
street by 2 "zips"from the old country,
Galante was against the sale of narcotics
in his family, thus creating the pizza wars
and the removal of the bonanno faction
from the commisson.
Columbo was a sanctioned hit by the commisson
and Carlo Gambino carried it out.Gambino
had told columbo many times to cool
it w/the gatherings and publicity he
was getting w/his ITALIAN-AMERICAN
GROUP.

Well the Genovese Family was said to have had over 700 made guys during Luciano and Costello's leadership. So its safe the say that this Family had the most membership than the other Families.

Since they say it was possible for the Government to organize the hit on Joe Colombo what government branch would you think is capable of that? CIA, FBI?

Actually, it was at an Italian Restaurant in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.

A famous photo in the NY DAILY NEWS showed him lying dead and bloody on the ground, with his cigar still clenched between his teeth.

Galante was killed at Joe & Mary's Restaurant, 205 Knickerbocker Avenue, Brooklyn. Here's the pic that plawrence mentioned:
