Does anyone know why Al Capone was called Scarface?

I hate people who are against vengance, they say that killing them won't make the lost come back, the way i see it, if you let them get away with that, they'll do it again and again until you are destroyed.

Capone had several scars on his face as a result of a barroom mishap. Frank Gallucio, a Brooklyn thug, was sitting at a table with his sister. Capone, the hotshot, cruised up to her and said something like, "You've got a great ass, and I mean that in the most complimentary way." Gallucio didn't take kindly to that remark, so out came the knife. In one of those gestures that made him famous: Capone later made up with Gallucio and hired him as a bodyguard.

I am confused?
Did this happen in real life or in the 'Scareface' film?
I guess the latter.

Scarface (1932) is based on Capone. Just gives him a differ name. Its rumored that before he died, Capone had a copy of the movie.

I don't know, probably from eating pineapple! Just joking. This is an inside joke from those who've watched the TV version of Scarface.

Robert De Niro baers the scars on his right side of his jaw in The Untouchables. i'm not sure if these are the right locations of the scars, but just some more info on "Scarface" Al Capone!

Here is the official description of Capone's facial scars, from his admission form to the Atlanta Penitentiary, at the beginning of his income tax evasion sentence:
"Oblique scar of 4" across l. cheek. 2" scar in front of left ear. Scar of 2 1/2" on left jaw. Oblique scar of 2 1/2" - 2" under left ear."
Any wonder why the called him "scarface"?

For the rest of his life, Capone was embarrassed about that scar, and often wore powder to cover it up.
