Now, I know that any gang is bad according to society, but I do believe there is some glamor associated with the mob and other organized crime groups. Post your thoughts and opinions, I am interested in what you guys think. Have you ever considered joining a gang? If you have ever thought about it, post your comments on why you did. There is more to organized crime than just killing people and breaking the law. That is my opinion at least.

Maybe there is, when you’re a consigliere, boss, capo di tutti capi, or close relative of one. But to get in you have to kill, and to stay in you have to keep on killing. The only alternative to it is if you want to get wacked, or become a rat (which is by all standards much worse then anything else)

If I'm well connected, or a Capo, Consigliere or even the Don, yes, but not if I would be "small potatoes".

What if your Uncle is an Underboss and he wants to make you a Capo? You wouldn't have to kill, you would just be making desicions. It is a possibility. Or, maybe you would just have mob ties. Like, you weren't really in, but you could call for favors from the mob.

I would take it, becoming a Capo isn't as dangerous as being a Don, you make good money without very much danger.

In the book, "Murder Machine," the reverse happens: Dominic Montiglio's uncle, Nino Gaggi, a Capo in the Gambino family, exploits Dominic (a former Green Beret) by having him do the most menial and sometimes dangerous work, and paying him the grand sum of $200 a week.

The answer would be no. Why? To get in you must make your bones by killing someone you might not even have a grievance with. One must always look over their shoulder because you never know when someone may want to take you out of the picture or the FEDS decide to hit you with RICO charges. Mob life isn't glorious or like the movies.

Depends on what conditions there are where you live and the situation of your neighborhood.

There's a different mafia tradition here in Istanbul. Formerly they were mostly those who worked in a show business invironment.

There was a serious political war between the nationalists and the communists. But after the military junta in 1980 many nationalists began to get money by mafia in order to help their friends in prison. Actually the nationalist mafia had begun before 1980. Even the assassin of the Pope was a nationalist named Mehmet Ali Agca who had been kept in jail along 20 years in Italia. Thus the mafia understanding completely changed.

When I was 17 I joined into one of the nationalists group that has no affinity with the mafia. But another nationalist group were inciting the youth to join themselves. I had a gun at that date. I really wished to work together with them. But Thanks God the good friends of mine convinced me that my future would be destroyed if I had joined them. I don't believe that a man ever needs to carry a gun or do wrong things to make things better. The mafia seems attractive only in the movies. My other friends who are now in jail are praying for the salvation.
May God help them

Straight up, there is no way I could be in an Italian mafia, so I have not considered that. However, I have considered joining a street gang in my area, which is in its entirety extremely possible. This decision would come with instant money and popularity, the only drawbacks being the participation in illegal activity and possibly being murdered.

Still, for the fame, I have considered it many a time.

I wouldnt really like to be a small workman

The lawyer would b a good job as u dont have to brake the law much.

I would, but not in American, too much Police/FBI enforcement, but somewhere nice and quiet, like Australia might convince me

I agree, I would consider going to Russia, 'cause that's where the big money is.

I think anyone who answered no to this question must be an absolute saint or is lying. Choices like these are decided throughout life, i've had choices to make in my life and i'd be lying if I said I took the right path all the time.

Personally I don't think being in organised crime or gangs is easy money. It's a dangerous path to take.

Turi does have a point. My first impulse is to say "definitely" no!! However, one never knows what he/she may do in times of need for money or perhaps to protect one's family!

If I was offered something that seemed harmless and lucrative for myself, who knows??? The only problem is, when you're in, your "in." Therefore I voted yes, not because I am looking to join the mafia, but because I have learned "never to say never."

I would love to join, but, you could get killed by another family, which is kind of scary. Plus most families only take in people that are blood related. Im Italian and so I try my best to research my family name the best I can. Maybe some cousin of mine is a mob boss. That would be cool.

Yeah I know you don't have to be Italian. I mean there's Jewish Mafia, German Mafia, Russian Mafia, and so on. I just thick Italian Mafia is the cooles. But of course that's my personal opionion because I'm Italian, you might think something different.

I wouldn't touch the Yakuza, aren't they hard-arse business men who kill themselves just to prove they are loyal?

wait a second, German mafia? I've done research and haven't found a clue about any large-scale German organized crime group existing! And believe me, I'm very interested as I am 1/2 German, please let me know if there is indeed such a thing and where I might find some information on it. Thanks.

There must be, everywhere people have gangs and crime groups!
They just might not be large scale.
In my school theres a gang called the soulflys
(i am capo)
we deal cannabis and stuff, nuthin else really (may a bit of protection)
soi think der must be a german crime group, only mor likely to be street gangs,

I have to admit that yes, I always wanted to be in or married to the mob. My family was always really into the GF movies and my father, who used to be an auto mechanic in NY, did some auto work for a guy in the mob back in the 70's. When it came time to pay for the work the guy said he was a little short at the moment but gave my Dad his card and said that if he ever needed anything to give him a call. My Dad never used the card, said it was too dangerous etc. but I know he wished he could have.
It seems romantic in light of GF1 and GF2 but just look at Sopranos. It's a dirty life, it's not romantic at all. It's messy.

Yes, I've heart of that too, after the fall of communism in Russia there wasn't enough money no more for maintenance, well, there is enough money, but the mob isn't in that kinda business, I woulden't be lying if I would say they're practicly "Untouchebles". A few years ago when my parents were on a holiday to Gran Canaria, my father saw a few guys of the russian mob, they came walking into the hotel (in the top 10 of best hotels in the world), and they paid cash to reserve a room...

Well the problem is, once you're in, you're in. And he had a family with two young children and a very successful auto mechanic business in NY. He could have lost everything. His father actually opened the first EVER privatly owned auto mechanic business. Back in the 50's if you had a Ford you went to Ford to get your car fixed and his idea was to make a place where you can get any car fixed, as they are now.
He had, I think, 5 shops throughout NY so the business would have been putty in the hands of the Mob.
