What is everyones opinion about him? A earlier post I made in another topic gave me this idea. Since it seems noone mentions him at all, if some users have then I just haven't seen the posts so forgive me in advance.

I'm sorry but I don't really know much about the guy to form an opinion of him... I know that he was at the La Stella sit down because him and another New Orleans guy were having some trouble...

I know that he had a decent amount of connections in New York, but other than not... I wouldn't know.

The only thing I know about him is he was thought to be the guy that ordered the hit on J.F.K.

Leonard: I dont know. See, I have this condition.
Teddy: Well, I hope its not as serious as his, 'cos this guy's dead.

I know that Marcello was supposed to be involved with that... but I always thought that it was Giancana that ordered the actual hit originally.

I was reading Kennedy Contract by John H. Davis, and Marcello was mean. I read that he had a swamp on his property, and when he killed someone, he'd put the body in the swamp. I read that there was something (a chemical) in the swamp that would dissolve the bodies. And about the Kennedy assasination, I believe he was very much involved. I'm just not sure whether he ordered the hit or not.

The thing with Marcello is that he was and still is low key to every one interested in crime, past & present.
He wasn't American or Italian, he was born in North Africa. He didn't run the big families in the large cities, his domain was the South. If I remember correctly I'm sure he was based in New Orleans. I would put him as about the same ilk as Santo Trafficante.
I know that he had dealins with Costello, something to do with the wire service, that gave the racing results. He also was a 50-50 partner on slot machines, this enabled him to get an early foot in to LA and therefore Vegas. I'm also positive that he was a big importer of herion, although I could be corrected on this point.
Being based in the south, he did have an affection for Cuba, not just in the money sense as those families in New York. When Castro came to power, all the families lost money, albeit only after Castro seized their holdings, bank accounts and hotels/casinos. Originally they were to work together. However it seemed that he had a altogether more intense dislike for the new Cuba. This seems to fuel the constant rumour that he along with other head of families had a hand in the JFK shooting.

Little Man: Autobiography of Meyer Lansky, skims he dealings with Carlos.

Another good point is any James Elroy book, American Tabloid is a perfect example, although his style of writting can be annoying. Also he will mix truth and fiction, but he does give you a taste.

i thought he was from Sicily and was brought to New Orleans but never sought U.S. citizenship. he was deported by the Kennedy's to Guatemala and was the Mafia Boss of New Orleans. he died in 1993 at the age of 83. three decade after the assasination of JFK.

Marcello was born of Sicillian parents in Tunesia. According to Joe Valachi, no member of any outside family was allowed to go into Marcello's territory for any reason without his permission. If you wanted to vacation in New Orleans, someone very high up in your family had to reach out for permission and you would probably be told no by your own boss anyway.

The irony of Marcello's deportation to Guatemala was that he had a phony Guatemalan birth certificate that he was using to fight deportation proceedings because he was never made a US citizen. So the Robert Kennedy Justice Department literally picked him up and dumped him in Guatemala. Then the Guatemalan government dumped him in Honduras, in the middle of a jungle. He walked for days until he got to an airstrip and bought his way out of the country.
