Does any one know where I can find information on these guys? It's practically impossible for me to find anything on them. Any web sites or books would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Liz.

You can probably get the following book, "The Westies: Inside the Hell's Kitchen Irish Mob," by
T. J. English, at B&N or Amazon. Westies are also mentioned in the Paul Castellano biography, "Boss of Bosses," by Kurens and O'Brien, and in some other modern books about organized crime. I hope you've seen "State of Grace" with Sean Penn, Gary Oldman and Ed Harris, which gets better with each viewing, imhop.

The westies come up every now and again in GOTTI:rise and fall but obviously they're not talked about much.

The Westies by TJ English is an excellent read.
A good movie loosely based on the Westies is State of Grace starring Sean Penn, Ed Harris and Gary Olin.
Also, the 2 characters in Sleepers who go bad are supposedly loosely based on the Westies too.

PRIEST>>> Don't be afraid my son, noone is more powerful than God.
CALOGERO>>> I don't know about that father. Your guy may be bigger than my guy up there, but my guy is bigger than your guy down here.
PRIEST>>> Ya got a point.

Actually, Sleepers was a true story - although some debate that fact, I think it's true - and apparently John Riley and Tommy Marcano, who's names were changed for the book and movie, were founding members of the West Side Boys, as Carcaterra calls them.
So I guess if you think Sleepers is a true story like me, then you wouldn't say that they were loosely based on the Westies.
Just some insight for you

First rule of Fight Club, you do not talk about Fight Club. Second rule of Fight Club, you DO NOT talk about Fight Club. Third rule of Fight Club, when someone say "stop" or goes limp, the fight is over. Fourth rule of Fight Club, only two guys to a fight. Fifth rule of Fight Club, one fight at a time. Sixth rule of Fight Club, no shirt, no shoes. Seventh rule of Fight Club, fights go on as long as they have to. Eighth and final rule of Fight Club if this is your first night at Fight Club you have to fight.

the westies were a small irish gang started back
in the 50's,they ran the ports that the mafia did
not want, the book is good but not very detailed,
they were collectors for mob loan sharks, they became more popular as the gambino faction became
more powerful under paul costellano, they would do
the hits that demeo or gotti would not do,they also killed the cities biggest book maker and decided to go into business for themselves, the gambinos got 10% of this, they also ran small movie
theatres and local bars, most were sent to jail or
ratted in the mid 80's,gotti used them to rough up
a union rep in 88-89 but they shot the guy 6 or 7
times in the ass, gotti was jailed for assault but
beat the case,i do not think they exist as they
once did,you here alot of wannabe stories now and
then but nothing concrete.
