A while back, on the old board, I started a thread about everyone's favorite quote. I thought now that we have a new board and many new members that it might be fun to do it again. So what is everyone's favorite quote or line from the Trilogy? My favorite is Sonny's badabng speech, the one he gives after Mike says that he will kill Sollozo. Also, I love the one that I have for my signature, and Calo's quote, "Power wears out those who don't have it."

I've always been partial to this one:

Vito: "I spent my life trying not to be careless -- women and children can be careless, but not men".

I still like the......

'You can act like a man' *slap*

I loved it because to me it was very spontaineous, I thought Don Vito would have responded with a more symathetic attitude for his godson. But he did the right thing and gave Fontaine the respect he deserved which was Vito being truthfull. (as usual) cool

I agree that "Tattaglia's a pimp" line is pretty good. smile

One of my favorite lines is when the boys go visit Vito after he returns home. Fredo says, "I'm gonna learn the casino business." He sounds like such an idiot when he says it, I think it completely personifies his character.

I think this quote is the best of all the three parts.

FREDO you're nothing to me now you're not a brother, you're not a friend, I don't want to know you or what you do -- I don't want to see you at the hotels -- I don't want you near my house -- when you see our mother I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there -- you understand.

I got two brothers my self and i think it will be very tough to speak to you're own brother that way.

I have two favourite quotes from Part I; I can't think of anything else in the Trilogy that I like more.

Quote I:

"..... But I'm a superstitious man -- and if some unlucky accident should befall him -- if he should get shot in the head by a police officer -- or if he -- should hang himself in his jail cell -- or if he's struck by a bolt of lightning -- then I'm going to blame some of the people in this room. And that, I do not forgive..." (Do you guys feel the Chill?)

Qutoe II:

"..I knew that Santino was going to have to go through all this. And Fredo -- well --

(then, after he sits besides Michael)

-- Fredo was -- well -- But I never -- I never wanted this for you. I work my whole life, I don't apologize, to take care of my family. And I refused -- to be a fool -- dancing on the string, held by all those -- bigshots. I don't apologize -- that's my life -- but I thought that -- that when it was your time -- that -- that you would be the one to hold the strings."

"..Your youngest and strongest will fall by the sword.."

"...now you gotta speak more than one language to pull a heist..." Pudge Nichols

"...Never shall innocent blood be shed; yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The THREE shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeaful striking hammer of God..."

I've always felt that line was the closest that Don Vito ever came to making a threat (even though his philosophy was to never do so). It was chilling, yet in spite of that, Barzini still made one final attempt to kill Michael before he left Sicily.

I like the scene when the Don slaps Johnny Fontaine and tells him to act like a man, not "some Hollywood finochi", and feigns like he is crying.

The other is from my friend-also a GF fan-when Don Vito says "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse." refering to Jack Woltz.

Who was it who wanted to know why the women were not actually part of the Mafia? This is the simplest answer. Women can (ARE) careless....

A few weeks ago and I was changing the channel and the movie "You've Got Mail" was on. When I saw that movie the first time a few years ago, I didn't catch it (because I haven't seen the Godfather films yet), but the part I turned it to was Tom Hank's dialogue about how guys base everything on the Godfather. I just found that funny.

There was a gal who used to post on the old boards who was watching "You've Got Mail" and decided to watch "The Godfather" because of Tom Hanks' references to it. She quickly became a big fan of the three movies!

Here are a few of mine.

"'Cause a man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man."

"You can act like a man!"

"She was the greatest piece of ass I ever had, and I had'em all over the world!"

"Senator - we're both part of the same hypocrisy. But never think it applies to my family."

"Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer."

That's my favorite, but too bad I messed it up in my interview. I was too nervous in front of the camera to get it right, and like a stunad I said:

Quote
Keep your friends close; keep your enemies closer.
eek

When the TV special "America's Love Affair With The Godfather" comes out this Fall on TNN, please try not to laugh too hard at all my nervous F-ups grin

Something kind of like "You've Got Mail" was in City Slickers 2. In it, Jon Lovitz's character constantly quoted Godfather. It was pretty funny.

"Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes."

"Well I hope he's wearing protection."

A couple of other lines I like a lot, not exactly quotes, just lines are when Woltz says to Tom, "... Now you get the hell outta here." Also when Tom says to Frankie, "Don't worry about anything Frankie 5 Angels." And, in my opinion, the most emotional moment in the Trilogy is when Kay says to Mike in part 3, "I want you to know that I always loved you Michael. I always will." That whole scene is always a tear jerker for me.

Another one of my favorie quotes is kind of obscure. It's in GF II and it's in the scene where Connie is with Merle asking for money before they get married. The quote, "If you go and marry this man, you'll disappoint me," I thought, showed how much power and influence Mike had.

I really don't know - do you get TNN there on cable or satelite? It used to be The Nashville Network, but since MTV took over it's now The National Network and airs lots of pop culture shows...

Can't narrow to one but here's a few good ones. Oddly enough they're from GFIII.

From the meeting with the other families:

DON CORLEONE-------
I forego my vengeance for my dead
son, for the common good. But I
have selfish reasons. My youngest
son had to flee, accused of
Sollozzo's murder, and I must now
make arrangements so that he can
come home with safety, cleared of
all those false charges. That is
my affair, and I will make those
arrangements.
But I am a superstitious man......and
so if some unlucky accident should
befall my youngest son, if some
police officer should accidentally
shoot him, or if he should hang
himself in his cell, or if my son
is struck by a bolt of lightning,
then I will blame some of the
people here. That, I could never
forgive, but...aside from that, let
me swear by the souls of my
Grandchildren that I will never be
the one to break the peace we have
made."

"It's nothing personal, Sonny....... It's strictly business."
