I no Gambino took over underboss in 1951 but I feel like I just don't no much about this era for 'Don' Carlo.

I guess him being secretive is why I don't no much but if there are any reports or any information about Gambino during the early years and when he became underboss, I would love to see stuff about him. Was the family divided between Anastasia and Gambino? I no Dellacroce was a Anastasia loyalist but how was their relationship?

Not sure if there is info during this timeframe and I'm in idiot mode right now lol and forget but pleaseeeee help.

Gambino was only UB for a few months so I doubt you will find much there.

At the time of Anastasia´s murder, Gambino served as the consigliere of the Family. To my knowledge, he was never the underboss. Frank Scalise was the underboss when he got shot. The spot was then briefly occupied by Nino Conte (the father of Patsy) before he stepped down, right after the Anastasia murder.

Nino Conte? There's a name I haven't heard before.

Nino Conte died in December 1958. He was owner of several stores that was left to his wife and two sons after he died. That´s how Patsy Conte got started with his stores.

Didn't Nino Conte retire in the early 1950's, then came back to fill the role of Underboss after Frank Scalise was killed? One thing to keep in mind, Gambino would not have been where he ended up without the help of Tommy Lucchese and Vito Genovese.

Do you have Bill Bonannos latest book? In there, there´s a chart listing Conte as underboss in 1951. But I think it´s a mistake, creating the illusion of Conte being the underboss twice. But Bill didn´t make those charts, the co writer did and the co writer seems to be confused at times. I believe Anastasia´s original underboss was Tata Chirico, later replaced by Scalise.

Yes I fully agree with this. Lucchese was a master manipulator too. He should receive more credit for all the schemings and connivings that went on during that era.

HairyKnuckles, yes I have Bill Bonannos latest book, it shows Conte was underboss before Scalise, but Conte was acting underboss in 1953 not official underboss. Chirico was Anastasia first Underboss, but had some problems by 1953 to where Conte served as acting underboss for the remainder of 1953 till he retired. Between Conte and Scalise, there were two other acting underbosses starting in 1954, one was a Jimmy the Blond Corrao from Manhattan, and the other was a Frank Galluccio from Brooklyn. By the summer of 56', Scalise was the official underboss of the Gambino's. Anastasia picked Scalise cause he was repected and had a powerful crew in the family based in the Bronx, but also to keep both Genovese and Lucchese at bay. The position of Consigliere was out of Anastasia's hands, though he could demote his Capo's and replace them with men he knew would vote to his liking, but that would have caused a internal war within the family. Conte came back to fill the role of underboss for the family after Scalise was murdered, and Biondo stepped down as Consigliere in the late summer of 57', Gambino was voted to the position of Consigliere sometime around early September of 1957.
