SEE: Fatal Miami drug bust shootout recorded by alleged perps’ cameras
Detectives found 80 pounds of marijuana in a growhouse after a deadly firefight between two suspected traffickers and Miami detectives. Surprisingly clear footage from the confrontation will be evidence at one suspect’s upcoming second-degree murder trial.

Fucking Miami is crazy. For all of the gentrification and the money in suburbs like Coral Gables, that place is still the wild wild west.

Back in the 1980's there was a vicious shootout in Miami between a bunch of FBI agents and a couple guys who were doing armed robberies in south florida at the time. I think 5 FBI agents died there that day, it was just an absolutely brutal shootout in a local neighborhood. Look up the 1986 FBI Miami shootout if anyones interested.

They did a pretty good tv movie on it and David Soul from Starsky and Hutch played one of the serial armed robbers and the guy who played the father from Michael J Foxes show Family Ties played his partner. Actually pretty decent for a tv movie.

Thats the one. A little dated but not too bad. I remember watching news footage of the actual shootout, you really couldn't see much because the camera guys were pretty far away but you could hear the shootout and it was pretty intense.

After this incident the feds began testing .40S&W ammo for deployment in the field.

just wanted to make a slight correction. they actually introduced the 10mm round first, but the recoil was thought to be too heavy for some agents. the solution was to shorten the case size, thus creating the modern .40s&w round, probably the 2nd most popular law enforcement round today next to the 9mm.

Sounds good. cool

Yeah the 10mm didn't go over too well for whatever reason but to tell you the truth i liked it and thought it was a decent round myself, but people did think the kick had to be toned down.

i've only shot maybe a few dozen 10mm rounds in my life, and i didn't think the recoil was too bad, but then again the rounds we shot we not particularly hot. the platform was also pretty heavy, a colt delta elite, basically not much more than a beefed up 1911. smile

anyway, back on topic, while miami still has plenty of crime and bad neighborhoods, things have changed much more for the better since the late 70's/80's!
