The Gotti era is over. John caused so much damage to the Family that no one, even other Mob Families, wants anything to do with any of them. i mean what is Gene going to be involved in? No Capo will have him and he would be a totally unnecessary lightning rod for Law Enforcement. The Gotti name was always good for padding the FBI;s budget requests. Even if one friend of Genie's felt bad for him and gave a small dice game to help him out and he happened to get caught handling gambling money, you can almost predict the headlines : "Former high ranking Gambino figure wastes no time in picking up where he left off. FBI sources confirm that Gene Gotti brother of deceased Boss John Gotti is trying to take back his old rackets, including his involvement in a high stakes gambling operation", you get the idea. I mean for Christ sakes,Gene was actually suspected in the Frank Cali hit before the real truth came out. The bottom line is you'd have to be be nuts to have a Gotti anywhere within a mile of you. If you remember, while Daddy was alive,Junior was made "acting Boss". The first act of the Gambinos was in trying to whack THAT nitwit.Jr was probably the least respected son of a Boss since Allie Boy Persico and even Bill Bonanno. And that's saying something.!
