As far as I know, no one I know was on that train. I can't imagine how scary that must have been for the people on the train!! Apparently, a suicidal man parked his car on the tracks, and waited for the train to come crashing through. But the idiot got out of the car right before the impact and watched the whole thing. The train also crashed into another parked train, I think... At least 10 people died, and more than 100 are injured. Some people are so damn stupid. Why couldn't he shoot himself or something quiet like that? I guess he didn't even think about the other 250+ people who ride the Metrolink every day. He should have stayed in his car, as far as I'm concerned.

Channel 4 is airing the story now. Like Zia said, the man was gonna commit suicide. They said he changed his mind and got out of the car and left the car right on the tracks. . They did say the that charging him with murder, with special circumstances is NOT out of the question.
I only know one person who takes the metrolink, and I know he gets up very very early to go into L.A. I haven't heard that he was on it, so I assume he is ok. Some people are really idiots.
They had some of the battered victims on tv this morning, mostly with bumps/bruises, bloody foreheads, etc., all of them feeling very lucky, considering 10 people died.

TIS - What is happening out there on the left coast? Do you have any info beyond what is on the web?

Gee, thanks for your concern guys. Actually Zia is much closer to that crash than I am, and actually was the first person I thought of. Since she works on Rodeo Drive, I didn't think she took the metrolink. TIS

Ha ha ha!! Great one DC. And of course if that were the case, we'd just have to ask exactly "who" is paying for this shopping spree hu? Our little Zia is growing up. :p TIS

DC, that was a great "revenge" scene. TIS, I, too, wonder who would fund that spree... I don't like Richard Gere, though. Actually, believe it or not, on Sunday, someone stopped me on the street and asked me for directions to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. I tried to contain my laughter as I patiently told him. I didn't join him, though. By the way, thanks, DMC. I feel all better now.

I haven't watched 24. Is that part of the storyline? That is eerie. DC, it'd be great for you to come to CA, but hopefully you'll come before mine & Zia's demise in a train wreck. :p Zia, you may have just passed up your fantasy shopping spree who knows? :p TIS

Everything is fine out here in San Diego as well. No one that I know was involved, but God help those that were. I want to thank you guys (especially Don Cardi) for your thoughts and prayers, for they are greatly appreciated.

That isn't true, but I guess we New Yorkers are just more jaded. This reminds me of a true story from some 20 years ago: I was travelling to work (on the subway) when the train suddenly stopped, and stayed stopped for about 15 minutes. It was about this time that fellow passengers started grumbling about the delay. The conductor then announced on the p.a. that the delay was due to someone jumping on the tracks in an apparent suicide attempt. That was followed by a passenger yelling, "JEEEEZUS CHRIIIIST, WHY DIDN'T THE BUM STAY HOME AND STICK HIS HEAD IN THE OVEN". That was followed by cheers of agreement. The (New York) moral of this story is do whatever you want, but don't make me late for work.
