Hannity is so transparent. He cherry picks a few sentences from the WSJ piece knowing most of his viewers won't read it in it's entirety. No actual tariffs were lowered today, Juncker doesn't even have the authority to do so. Anyway... Agreeing with Europe to conduct further talks about improving trade relations, possibly lowering tarriffs, while suspending additional new tariffs and not jacking up current tariffs while these talks are conducted ...brings trade policy precisely back to where it was pre-Trump's trade war bluster. (Which is a positive thing, so at least that came out of this.) Juncker was mainly concerned with the 25% tariffs on autos, Trump agreed not to impose them while negotiations are ongoing.... they will be ongoing for a long time. That's a big plus for European car makers and American purchasers. The EU countries also buy their own energy independently, not as a single entity. The LNG thing is interesting. Currently it's much cheaper for them to buy it via pipeline from Russia, which is why they do so. The US suppliers would have to significantly drop the price to make it even remotely competitive, and we have one port set up to export it (in Louisiana) as of now, so they'd have to wait a long time for us to set up the capacity to export the amount they would need.

All God's children are not beautiful. Most of God's children are, in fact, barely presentable.
I never met anyone who didn't have a very smart child. What happens to these children, you wonder, when they reach adulthood?

https://www.theguardian.com/busines...r-trade-talks-tariffs-cars-business-liveI agree that there are many things to iron out in complex agreements but I do not think that Hannity was cherry picking. The president of the EU commission was sent to the White House with an agenda and the way I see it the EU have buckled and all this will be disclosed in the near future. In the end it may benefit both the US and the EU. Guardian: US and EU reach agreement on trade It’s official: The European Union and the United States have reached an agreement that may calm fears of a trade war between the two sides.
The breakthrough was reached during Jean-Claude Juncker’s talks with Donald Trump at the White House. The two side have agreed to work together to lower trade barriers, and towards eliminating some tariffs.
It will see Europe import more energy, and soy beans, from America.
In a statement, the EU says it agreed four key points with the US today:
First of all, to work together toward zero tariffs, zero non-tariff barriers, and zero subsidies on non-auto industrial goods. We will also work to reduce barriers and increase trade in services, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical products, as well as soybeans.
This will open markets for farmers and workers, increase investment, and lead to greater prosperity in both the United States and the European Union. It will also make trade fairer and more reciprocal.
Secondly, we agreed today to strengthen our strategic cooperation with respect to energy. The European Union wants to import more liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States to diversify its energy supply.
Thirdly, we agreed today to launch a close dialogue on standards in order to ease trade, reduce bureaucratic obstacles, and slash costs.
Fourthly, we agreed today to join forces to protect American and European companies better from unfair global trade practices. We will therefore work closely together with like-minded partners to reform the WTO and to address unfair trading practices, including intellectual property theft, forced technology transfer, industrial subsidies, distortions created by state owned enterprises, and overcapacity.

EU businesses had already planned to buy more soybeans back in June, so it looks like they packaged something that was going to happen anyway as a concession. Trade Spat to Turn U.S. Into Top EU Soybean Supplierhttps://www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/...r-to-eu-market?__twitter_impression=trueIt's good that they plan to buy more soybeans, as we lost out enormously when China cancelled on those. The EU charges no duty on soybean imports from the US, and now while negotiations go on, none will be placed on them. But Europe imports 18.3 million metric tons of soybeans total per year, while China imports 95 million. This is a catch 22 situation for American farmers, the longer this issue lingers, the more permanent the trade links between China & Brazilian suppliers become - their market will shrink. Also, the vast majority of US soybeans are GMOs, which Europe won't buy.
