In 2004 Toronto Police officers were arrested in a corruption case. They were shaking down bars and using the money to pay of gambling debts they racked up with Italian organized crime groups (Calabrian ones). The head of the police union at the time was involved as was the current head of the union.

Why am I posting this? Because there are reports Cosimo Commisso is related to the owner of a certain restaurant in downtown Toronto. And that person was involved in the police corruption case.

So I think the Toronto police are full of crap when they say he wasn't "known". He may not have had a record, but he was definitely "known".
