Thank you, Furio. Some websites say that Milwaukee was under the Outfit at first, but don't specify whether Balistrieri was independent. It certainly seems that by the time of the Vegas skim, Milwaukee was its own family. And, yes, I've read about Balistrieri being the one behind bombing Lefty's car. Wasn't Spilotro still involved, however? I seem to recall Spilotro going to Balistrieri, or something.

It maybe a few oldtimes out there but nothing big.
From now on, nothing goes down unless I'm involved. No blackjack no dope deals, no nothing. A nickel bag gets sold in the park, I want in. You guys got fat while everybody starved on the street. Now it's my turn.

I'm almost certain Milwaukee WAS under Chicago. I'd like to hear from Snakes or Toodooped on this. From what I've read they were officially an independent family, but for all intents and purposes regarded as a glorified crew.. Balistrieri had to get the OK from Chicago about big decisions. They were also represented by Chicago on the Commission..

The milwaukee family made ton of $$$ with the vegas skimming but after was kicked of in the middle 1980s and with the Balistreri dead in 1993 the family members was too old with no fresh blood; new orleans, tampa and milwaukee made the same end: when the big boss died, the family as organization died with him.

http://historymilwaukee.blogspot.it/2014/11/last-of-milwaukee-mob-bosses-joseph-joe.html Joseph P. Caminiti (born 1926- died January 30, 2014) also known as "Joe Camel", was the last known reputed boss of the Milwaukee crime family. He was heavily involved in labor unions in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Caminiti was married to Mary Alioto, daughter of former Milwaukee family boss John Alioto, with whom he had three children. He came to prominence when he was installed as Frank Balistrieri's Consigliere, a position he allegedly held from 1961 when Balistrieri became boss until the 1990s. In 1993, Frank Balistrieri died and his brother Peter Frank Balistrieri, succeeded him as boss. When Pete Balistrieri died of natural causes in 1997, longtime family Consigliere Joe Caminiti became the new boss of the Milwaukee crime family and had Joseph Balistrieri, Frank's son, installed as his underboss and made Angelo Alioto, the son of John Alioto his Consigliere (Angelo died on February 3, 2011 of complications of pneumonia at age 87). Caminiti was a former secretary-treasurer of local 257 of the International Brotherhood of Teamster's truck drivers and allied industries Union which was a very influential union in Milwaukee's garbage removal and gasoline transportation and a former secretary treasurer of local 982 of the service station attendants, bulk plant and garage employees union. Under Caminiti's leadership the family was reportedly composed of no more than twenty members and 15-20 associates operating primarily in Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin. Law enforcement claimed that Caminiti shared much of the power with Frank Balistrieri's son Joseph who died in 2010. In the 2000s, Law enforcement also believed that the Milwaukee LCN Family nearly extinct, with less than 15 "made" members and the most lucrative rackets controlled by the Chicago Outfit. Caminiti died on January 30, 2014 at the age of 87. http://.wikia.com/wiki/Joseph_CaminitiAnother point of view follows from a contributor who wishes to remain anonymous: Somehow the modern Milwaukee Family has some very dubious information floating around the Internet. There are "member lists" that keep getting recycled and include people who are very dead, and some who are just made up. (The name Rico "the Killer" Bono is a common one, and he never existed.)The story of Joe Camel is another stretch, with people mixing up father and son. Joseph Caminiti (1904-1995) is the guy with the labor connections. He is the one who was the consigliere. Before coming to Milwaukee, he grew up in Chicago alongside Carlo Caputo and Joe Aiello. Joseph Caminiti (1926-2014) is his son. This Joe DID marry Mary Alioto, the daughter of John Alioto. But there is little evidence he had any real role in the mob. He was not involved in labor like his father, but sold life insurance. Both men lived in Menominee Falls.

At its peak in 1958, the family had 54 members, only about 40 were still active even the ones serving time. 1958 also had another 6 members from different families and from Sicily in Wisconsin, so I can see why people say 60.
Current members who are active Joseph Alioto Jr. Carlo Balistrieri George Busateri Anthony Cimino Nick Corzano Dominic Gaudesi Nick Guarnieri Dennis Librizzi Peter Sciortino
Inactive members John Balistrieri- left the life and is fully legit, trying to get his law license back Joseph Balistrieri- retired Ralph Brocca- retired John Safina- retired. Jack Turrene- retired
Members who transferred to another family Ricco Bono Frank DeNegris Vincent Gallo Nine old men ain't a crime family. And what does active mean? bookies, drug dealers? I guess the OutFit is taking a 10-20% cut of their action

Your right about that. Grand Avenue has alot of Barese people (from Bari in southern Italy). One example would be Joey Lombardo. Other guys that are Barese were the Spilotro brothers, the Cassano's, and many others. If you do some research into John DiFronzo (and his brothers) and Solly D (sal delaurentis) and their last names, they originate in the Bari area, so odds are they are Barese as well. Interesting how Chicago seemed to have a high Barese population, when in most other cities they were usually Sicilian, Neapolitan or Calabrese. Bari today has a large organized crime presence, like the rest of southern Italy. Other people that are Barese are the Sollecito's in Montreal and the DiNunzio's over in Boston.

Did the regional Italian background even matter after the 1930s? Capone was a Neapolitan, so I'm guessing in the Chi it didn't even matter before the '30s. It would seem that money was all that mattered once Masseria and Maranzano were taken out. I agree with you also Oaks, and another proof for the was the non-Italian membership within their syndicate, not Cosa Nostra. I mean they had non-Italians at the top from the 1930's until the end of the 1980's and some of those guys were the biggest moneymakers and also some were even responsible for establishing some of the rackets. But still, they always managed to place some Sicilian big shot near the top so they can maintain the whole Cosa Nostra thing but by the end of the day, the Outfit started with complete non-Sicilian leadership, including Al Capone, Paul Ricca, Louis Campagna, Frank Nitto, Frank Rio etc. The so-called Sicilians arrived on the scene after the imprisonment of their whole top administration during the mid the 1940's but the thing was that most of those fellas such as Accardo, Giancana, Aiuppa etc. were completely Americanized and were brought in by non-Sicilians and some were even brought in by non-Italians, such as Aiuppa being brought by Johnny Moore aka Claude Maddox or Turk Torello by Joe Corngold etc.
