Vic and Casso was paranoid psychos so every person that in their minds could be a menace for their power must be killed. They started killing the powerful bronx faction leaders plus they believe (and killed many people for this reason) that Dilapi was an fbi informant or would be rat after out of prison. DiLapi did close to ten years in prison, if he was going to rat it would have been before he started his sentence. It makes no sense to do almost ten years in prison and then turn rat.

He was the underboss tom mix santoro nephew. Read tom mix was trying to take over the family with the power shifted to the bronx. Amuso and casso killed buddy lungo and a few others. I think tony ducks okd it to. But to have him chased down all the way to L.A. is nuts. Like you said he just did 6 yrs and was on parole for a few more hes not a rat. Also maybe al darco pushed amuso to do it. His son was the shooter so al okd it. Santoro was tied up in the commission case with Ducks. He can't take over the family because only two things were going to happen at the conclusion of the commission case - A' Him and Ducks beat the case and Ducks stays on as Boss, or B' Santoro and Ducks get convicted and have to serve a life sentence. There is no opportunity for Santoro to take over the family. Yep the order came from Ducks to whack Buddy Luonga. Agreed, it's fucking crazy to chase the guy all the way to LA. My theory....and it's only a theory....is Casso chased the guy down so he looks like the fucking terminator and it will make the Bronx crews think twice about rebelling against the Amuso/Casso administration.

Casso gave a interview he said the guy was called in to report about his holdings in the garment center and he kept dodging them. DiLapi obviously feared he was going to get clipped. He worked as a used cars sales person in LA, so he's holdings in the Garment Center can't have been substantial.

Good point. He must have known his uncle tom mix was in the dog house after his protege buddy lungo got hit. Maybe casso was telling the truth they just wanted to no who had what in the garment district. They killed there guy who ran it . Forgot name the old guy who was holding out and little al killed him in a bagel shop. Maybe they took a page out of gottis playbook killed him for not coming in gotti killed the guy debrizzi in ct in 86 and that guy dibono for the same. Make vic n gas thought lets do the same but to chase a guy to L.A. when hes starting over is crazy. But who knows after vic n gas get arrested maybe he would have come back to nyc. Yeah that other Lucchese soldier that looked after the Lucchese family interests in the garment centre got hit by Vic and Casso because they didn't trust the guy.

Dilapi was killed in 1990 only thing i could think of is they thought he could come back and take over. Casso and amuso are on the lam from the window indictment in i think may 1990 so they started to kill any threats that guy bruno in bk. Salerno in the bronx. And control there little pupet al. DiLapi was only a soldier, he was never going to make Boss, he didn't even have his own crew. Guys like Salerno and Migliore had contracts put on their heads because they could take over as Boss, but those guys were heavyweights in the Lucchese families largest money making racket - construction unions. They were tight with the Genoveses and could oust Amuso and Casso with the support of the Bronx crews and the Genoveses.

true. but my thing with neil mig i think amuso had nothing to do with it. think it was all casso. i read casso orderd patrick testas murder cause he ran messages for amuso also. then gaspipe gets broken down once he was caugth. has cassos 302s evr been published? would clear this up Yeah might have been Casso. Mig was made part of the ruling committee nine years after the attempted hit, so I guess Amuso didn't fear him.

Why would Ducks have Buddy Luongo named as his successor, and then have him whacked by Casso and Amuso? Doesn't make sense.

Why would Ducks have Buddy Luongo named as his successor, and then have him whacked by Casso and Amuso? Doesn't make sense. Buddy Luongo started trying to isolate Ducks from the family instead of just waiting for the commission trial to finish and Ducks would have named him official Boss anyway. Luongo was clearly an idiot and a bad choice as Boss, he tries to fuck over the guy that made him acting boss.

The garment district guy Pappadio had a fucked up death. When he walked into the building he was about to get killed in, Carmine Avellino said "Surprise! Look who's here!". Then he was bludgeoned, shot in the head and still didn't die straight away. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/file/surprise-ending?page=4 Yeah, it was a brutal killing, and he was pretty much a defenseless old man. During that Amuso/Casso period the Luchese's had a few hits where the bodies were never found. The killings of Jimmy Hydell, Buddy Luongo, and Pappadio. Even with all the informants there has never been any info on what happened to their bodies. It's interesting how compartmentalized some hits are. You got the guys who set them up, the killers, the guys who clean up, and the guy who deposes the body.
