But Irish travellers aren't the same as Roma.

I think the Roma trace their lineage/share the same bloodline as Romanians or Indians.

You can also classify the Gypsies into three groups:

"Roms" referring to Romani who come from eastern Europe
"Manouches" also known as "Sinti," who arrived in Germany in the Late Middle Ages
"Gitans" who trace their familial ties to Romani in Spain
