Here's one 4 us oldheads...a great fraud to come out of Steubenville was the adult film "actress" Miss Traci Lords whom fooled the whole adult film industry as well as the government by lying & "acting" seven yrs. older than she really was..she was only 15 & 16 ,17 in her superstar yrs. in that biz..took the the whole industry by storm. She certainly was the toast of the San Fernando Valley (the porn capital of the country) for a few years. Then she tried to break into acting and I think played a cameo role on a soap. Taking her out of the equation, Steubenville has a very rich and illustrious organized crime history.

lol. Poor Dino. Trying to talk up your hometown on a mob forum and the only feedback you get is about a porn star. Ah, shucks. I'll help ya.
Jimmy The Greek was from Steubenville. Famed handicapper on the NFL on CBS in the '80s. More famous for making a drunken comment about black athletes that got him fired. Probably most famous for once punching Brent Musburger. Jimmy says take the Jets minus 6. [cue '80s CBS sports theme]
No doubt Steubenville was heavily mobbed up. They talked about that on The Greek's ESPN 30 for 30 documentary. He learned how to bet and (and lay?) the pigskin games in Steubenville's mob casinos. The DeBartolos, former 49ers owners, are from Youngstown. Don Moldea, who's written books about the NFL being fixed, Jimmy Hoffa, etc, believed the DeBartolos were mobbed up. It's Ohio, man.
And, of course, the real Dino Crocetti (Dean Martin) is from Steubenville, who you named yourself after, you character you. You're nobody till somebody loves you.

Steubenville was run by Calabrians, lots of them. The two top guys were Vincenzo Tripodi born in Archi and Como Quattrone, also born in Archi. They had a large crew of Calabrians that extended north into East Liverpool, OH, across the border in Weirton, WV and Wheeling, WV. Steubenville was under Pittsburgh's control and Tripodi and Quattrone were tied to Antonio Ripepi in Pittsburgh, another Calabrian. Youngstown had their own Calabrian faction run by Dominic Mallamo and Paul Romeo. Vincenzo Prato, Dominic Prato, Cheech Martel, Tony Aulisio, Dominic Triveri, Tony Zappia, Joe Marzano, Mike Romeo, Paul Romeo Jr and 'Young Mike" Romeo.

Another little know fact was that one of the owners of the largest steel hauler, also from Youngstown, did a "bit" for Jimmy Hoffa. When he got out he wore an 18kt. Rolex President with the case-back engraved: My Friend Bxxx Wxxxx Jimmy Hoffa.
Also this weekend, Eddie DeBartolo will be Enshrined into the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio.

Holy crap. Did a little more searching on the Debartolo thing for kicks and it turns out a special agent believed Debartolo Sr., father of the 49ers' owner, took Meyer Lansky's place as mob financial adviser when Lansky started to lose his marbles. ""In an earlier report, authored by Burda, the special agent wrote that he had developed source information indicating that 'Meyer Lansky, the financial wizard of OC [organized crime], is now considered by most to be almost senile and getting out of the business. His successor and new financial wizard is recognized as Edward J. DeBartolo.'" http://www.brasscheck.com/stadium/moldea.html

Contrary to people's belief and the media myth about Lansky, Moe Dalitz easily had the largest net worth than any gangster in history with being close to $1 billion. Most of it legitmately after his move to Vegas. Art Rooney Sr also laid off all his action to Wheeling, WV and the Paul Hankish organization...all overseen By Jo Jo Pecora.

I grew up in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh where I was generally aware of Pecora et al. However, the other day, I had a conversation with my oldest sister who, apparently, knew them well. She revealed some things to me about her friendship with some of those people as well as our brother's and uncle's association. As a kid, I remember hearing some oblique references to Pecora from time to time, but this is the first time that she went into depth about them. To say the least, I am surprised. She credited our parents with keeping her from getting just too involved with them.

Great area, sad to see it so declined. Reminds me of Steubenville.

I go back once or twice a year. Last time was in May. Consistently, over the last couple of decades, the Avenue looks like a film of Germany's cities at the end of WWII. Of course, the paisan are gone and it is dominated by the mulignane. It's a shame, a crying shame. Hopefully though, since Pittsburgh is booming, there are developers investing in Larimer Ave. (actually all of East Liberty) to revitalize it. In fact, the old Larimer school is one of them.

They just received a $30 million dollar grant to rebuild part of the Avenue...but they need about $200 million to force the jigs out of town. You could say the same about Homewood (an Italian enclave in the early 1900's-1930's), New Kensington, McKees Rocks, Braddock (the headquarters of the Black Hand Society in Western PA) and the Hill District to name a few. Going North, Aliquippa, New Castle, Sharon etc all went to shit when the homies moved in.
