PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The digging behind an old Wanskuck mill building continued Wednesday as some media, including WPRI and the Boston Globe, reported, citing unnamed sources, that the federal agents’ work at the location is based on a tip that a South Boston nightclub manager might be buried there.
The Boston Globe reported that federal prosecutors believe they know how and when Steven A. DiSarro, of Westwood, Mass., was killed after he disappeared in 1993 but they’ve never charged anyone in the case.
DiSarro, a Federal Hill native and real estate developer with ties to organized crime figures in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, was reported missing by his wife after he disappeared in 1993.

The club had been linked to the indicted son of reputed New England mob boss Francis P. “Cadillac Frank” Salemme.
In 2004, Salemme was indicted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston on two counts of obstruction of justice for making false statements about what he knew about the murder of DiSarro, according to WPRI.
At various times Wednesday, Rhode Island State Police K-9 dogs and their handlers were brought onto the site of the digging in a vacant lot just off Woodward Road, directly behind a building that’s among various former mill buildings off Branch Avenue. Early last evening someone from the medical examiner's office visited the site.
