Patriarca Sr had been working for the New England/Boston family since the 30's, when he was a hitman for Phil Bruccola. He grew in influence after Bruccolas retirement. Joe Lombardo takes over but also fades into the background, in which by the late 40's, beginning of the 50's, Patriarca is said to have been running things for the family in Providence, RI. By the 50's he's identified as the #1 man in the Boston Mob, with Jerry Anguilo being the #2, followed by Henry Tameleo. At what point would Patriarca had been made into a NY family and then transferred to New England?

AmericanMafia says he was a member of the NY mafia during the years of prohibition but that he was still based out of Providence. That makes things a little bit clearer I guess, as the Mafia wasnt as fleshed out during the Prohibition years and a lot of families around the country had yet to be established as actual families. He may have worked for and was later made by one of the big bosses from NY , before the days of Luciano & The Commission. And then when Luciano came into power and established the Five Families, perhaps Providence later on became merged with another family , forming the Boston/New England Mafia. Idk, thats just a theory, this has gotten confusing.
