I read that Arcuri was based on 69th street close to the Upper East side, near Murray Hill. Is that true?
That section wasn't always rich. Even the Ramones wrote a song about how it was sketchy. Nowadays it si obviously super rich, but walking the area especially the lower numbered avenues, you get a sense it wasn't always that way.
Not that it really matters but East 69th Street IS the upper east side. Murray Hill is the East 30s. Upper east side is east 59th street to east 96th street. All of it is pretty well off, but the really wealthy part is near Central Park. The upper east corner of the neighborhood (yorkville) is relatively reasonable and some good deals can be found there. Sorry - I'm in NY real estate.
Thanks, Benny. That's good info.
I found another article about Arcuri in the NY Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/22/nyregi...t-of-sight.htmlIt says he was actually based on East 76th steet, at the "Victory Star Social Club". So, yeah, he was way north of Murray Hill. It's interesting to me because you rarely here of mobsters based in that stretch of Manhattan.
