There have been examples of the LCN moving heroin in recent years. Just not as often as cases of them moving cocaine or marijuana. And they typically don't control the supply of heroin like they used to. In short, the mob hasn't been pushed out of the drug trade but it has been marginalized. But as I've said, the mob - especially the NY families - are very diversified and narcotics is but one of their rackets. Diversification and sophistication is the key to the mob's staying power, not being at the top of the drug trade.

To pmac, as far as the Northeast drug trade goes, as far north as the Philadelphia/South Jersey region, the Mexicans are now the top drug traffickers. They've also continued to expand into the New York/North Jersey and New England areas. The Colombians, at least the last reports I saw, we're still the top suppliers there. For years the Dominicans were the main mid-level distributors for the Colombians and they have increasingly been supplied by the Mexicans.

To ItalianIrishMix, the Bayonne/Jersey City waterfront is ILA Local 1588 which has traditionally been Genovese territory.
