Now that's some great news for the US Citizens.. I couldn't find a copy of Le Samourai in Germany. They released 2 Alain Delon Collections but none included that movie and Criterion DVDs aren't released here either...

Here's a way you can get it if you can play PAL DVDs. I bought it from here. French DVD Russian DVD I have the Russian one, which was a very good purchase. If you want a review of the French DVD, here it is. http://dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReview/lesamourai.htm Le Samouraï The Criterion Collection Directed By: Jean-Pierre Melville Starring: Alain Delon, Nathalie Delon, Jacques Leroy, François Périer, Cathy Rosier "A chilling movie world of elegance, betrayal and murder!" -Chicago Tribune "A marvelously stylish meditation on crime and solitude." -Leonard Maltin Release Dates Prebook Date: 9/20/2005 Street Date: 10/18/2005 Summary In a career-defining performance, Alain Delon plays blue-eyed Jef Costello, a fedora- and trench-coat-wearing contract killer with samurai instincts. When Jef assassinates a nightclub owner, he finds himself confronted by a series of witnesses, who drop his perfect world into the hands of a persistent police investigator and Jef's shadowy employer, both of whom are determined to put an end to the smooth criminal. A razor-sharp cocktail of 1940s American gangster cinema and 1960s French pop culture—with a liberal dose of Japanese lone-warrior mythology—maverick director Jean-Pierre Melville's masterpiece defines cool. Special Features New, restored high-definition digital transfer New video interviews with Jean-Pierre Melville historians Rui Noguiera and Ginette Vincendeau Collection of excerpts from archival interviews with Melivlle and actors Alain Delon, Cathy Rosier, Nathalie Delon, and François Périer Theatrical trailer New and improved English subtitle translation A new essay by film scholar David Thomson and a reprinted tribute by filmmaker John Woo More!

I've got a buy one-get one half off thing for Suncoast, that's good all of August, so I'll be picking these up on the 16:
"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."

I know.
But I am also obsessive compulsive, and anal. That's too long a stretch for me to wait. I will buy this for my entertainment needs, and purchase the SE when it comes... Or I may just add it up for Christmas if it's coming at the years end.
And from my recollection, isn't it just rumored at this point? I mean, Rodriguez said that he had shot the entire books, knowing they wouldn't make it into the film, but for a DVD feature; But does he have control over the entire studio? Does he have control over which DVD's they make, and which they don't? I'm not saying it won't come, I'm just not going to hold my breath and expect it to be here within the next six months (which is far too long a period of time for me to wait).

Hey DeNiro, is the new Directors Cut of Donnie Darko worth picking up? I bought the first special Edition afew months ago, I really like that movie but I dont think it'll have that much more extras and deleted scenes...

I purchased the directors cut. If you have seen the original, and enjoyed it, and own it (which I assume you do), I would say buy it. The directors cut isn't as good as the theatrical cut, and they basically just edited in the deleted scenes from the original DVD release, as well as a few extra camera tricks. Although, Kelly also made a few soundtrack changes, which I felt wasn't a smart move. It just felt awkward. I also felt they explained too much this time, and took away the feeling of confusion and possibilities that the film originally had. However, there were some good special features, including a fan-made documentary by this creepy, unhealthily obsessive fan, which is just hilarious.
So, if you are a fan, like myself, deffinately buy it, but don't expect it to be better than the original.

Thanks for the info, llc. I dont think it will be worth purchasing it if they just insert the deleted scenes. The retail price is 30 Euro's, I mean c'mon  I guess I'll stick with my current SE.
