Some books and articles say he was framed and was only guilty of greeting a drug dealer watched by an informant, and at the trial he said "I am a gangster, but not a drug dealer" or something like that. On the other hand, maybe he WAS into drugs, but just not guilty of this specific drug deal? Like what happened to Genovese (allegedly)?
